Dems May Initiate Steps to Remove Reagan’s Name from DC Airport
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 29 August 2009 | John Semmens

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Board is said to be considering removing former president Ronald Reagan’s name from the City’s airport.

“National monuments should reflect an accurate picture of a society’s character and core values,” said Board Chairman H.R. Crawford. “Reagan symbolized a kind of ‘cowboy individualism’ that ran counter to the mainstream of American history. His political ascendancy was an aberration, a detour, so to speak, on the nation’s road to greater social consciousness. We shouldn’t be exaggerating that detour by having the City’s airport named after him.”

Crawford suggested that “if we have to personalize it, LBJ or FDR would be better namesakes for the airport. But even this still exaggerates the importance of selected individuals. In my opinion, a more fitting name for the facility would be ‘People’s Airport.’”

Screw social consciousness. Let the democrat base get it's own job and pay it's own bills.
I'm tired of carrying their weight, and so are millions of other Americans.

No more freeloaders!

Socialist revisionist history.

American innovation and independence is our legacy.

Personal liberty is a birthright. Socialism is slavery.

Hmmmmm, have the Dumocrats done this before? Didn’t FDR remove Hoover’s name from Hoover’s Dam? Maybe the Republicans should counter by getting Robert “Sheets” Byrd’s name off of every darn road, highway, bridge and medical center in the state of West Virginia. There is even a Robert C. Byrd High School! He should have the toilets named after him.

Almost had me too. What was satire yesterday can easily be truth today. Judging from what’s going on today the outrageous is no longer far fetched.

Again, its hard to tell this satire. I could believe this in a heartbeat... But I live near Atlanta which renamed Hartsfield to “Hartsfield-Jackson” after Maynard Jackson.

Fortunately, to me, its just ATL.

It's a great satire, but the sad thing is, the folks who run Reagan National (is it called the Airport Board or is it actually the Washington Metropolitan *HAS* talked about removing Reagan's name from the airport and reverting it to just Washington National Airport. They're all DC Democratic hacks and never wanted his name on it in the first place--Congress shoved it down their throats. From Wikipedia's entry on the airport:

The federal government relinquished control of Dulles and National Airports in 1987, when President Reagan signed a bill creating the independent Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. However, Congress has continued to intervene in the management of the airports. On February 6, 1998, President Bill Clinton signed legislation changing the airport's name from Washington National Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, to honor the former president on his 87th birthday. The legislation, passed by a Republican-controlled Congress, was drafted against the wishes of MWAA officials and business and political leaders in Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.[3][4] Opposition also came from Congressional Democrats and air traffic controllers, who viewed Reagan negatively after he fired en masse more than 11,000 ATCs who participated in the 1981 air traffic controllers strike.[3] The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority initially resisted renaming the Metro station serving the airport, citing a policy (adopted in 1987) that states that groups seeking to rename a station were required to pay the cost of replacing signage. Also, the federal legislation renaming the airport specifically provided that no expenditures were required by that law. Arlington County, which would have been responsible for funding the name change, declined. Congress responded by threatening the system with budget cuts. Metro ultimately renamed the station at its own expense.

“Its getting harder and harder to recognize satire...next thing you know they will be doing a story about ROSA BROOKS gaining entree to national defense....”

Especialy since nothing we hear about the liberals surprises us anymore.

Fact: when the Dems took over the Congress in 2006, James P. Moran D-VA, aka “Wifebeater” promised to introduce legislation to remove Ronald Reagan’s name from the airport.

Watch for John Conyers D-MI aka the “Illiterate” to do something similar.

IIRC, what was once Cape Canaveral became Cape Kennedy before reverting back...

Satire, I know. But if Reagan were to comment, it would probably be “Meh.”

Typical liberal, when you can’t be greedy and grab other people’s money, be petty and try to write those who accomplished greatness out of history.

I'll be much happier when I see a red district somewhere who name their sewage plant after Obama like San Francisco named theirs after Bush. That should push the left into an uncontrollable frenzy.

Their next step will be to remove the name of Jesus from the Bible and replace his name with “Mack Daddy the Zebra”.

Good one!

If they ever do seriously consider renaming it, I have no doubt “Marion Barry Airport” will be right at the top of the list.
