A friend of ours sent us this article from RedState just now, and we had a good discussion about it. Its commentary on David Brooks column in the NY Times, where Brooks argues Democrats really and truly are committing political suicide, since the White House and Congress believe America is The Huffington Post. Brooks says Democrats will try to ram Deathcare through using every trick in the book, even if only 35% of the country identifies as liberal and supports this. Brooks predicts a massive backlash against the White House and Congress in 2010.
One of the comments on this RedState article says Dr. Utopia will be down to the 30s in approval ratings by Christmas, and that September is going to be a brutal month for liberals.
We feel Dr. Utopia will be in the very low 40s by Halloween, definitely but the REALLY brutal month for him is going to be the four weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Why?
(1) People out spending money will realize how little money they have left to spend and they will wonder where their hope and change are
(2) During the holiday season, people will gather together. There will be discussions things will get into politics. Everyone will wonder where their hope and change are. Those who didnt vote for Dr. Utopia will get to say Told YA SO!
(3) Heating bills will start rising soon and will be BRUTAL in November-December its going to be a bad, bad winter, folks. If you arent saving up for the gas bill now, you need to start today. Were expecting our bill to rise to the $200-300 range for Buzzquarters this winter. We have friends with large homes who pay $800 a month for heating during the holidays. This is going to have an impact on the publics perception of how things are going in this country. It always does but this year, its going to be colder than weve experienced in a while and people will mock the Democrats for all of that talk about global warming. Dr. Utopias going to take a big hit on all of this.
We have no idea how low Dr. Utopias numbers will go, but also cant see how he breaks this trend and pumps the publics opinon back up. It doesnt seem like he can avert a real disaster by Christmas.
What think you?
By December 1.5 million people will have exhausted their unemployment benefits. We will then be in a pattern where all those 100,000 of thousands of laid off workers, each month will be exhausting benefits....and...we will still be losing jobs.....until when? Next summer? If so, we could see by next summer near ten million previous workers, not having any income at all.
But we already do have the Democrats raising taxes at city, state and Federal level. Taxes on sales, cigs, booze, gas...
The GOP is so sooo luck they have the Dems to make them, sort of, look ‘good’( hurl )
The people that I know who liked Obama still like him. They’re uninformed. I told one woman that Obama is going to do away with or cut the Medicare Advantage Plans, and she wouldn’t believe me.
cap and trade.....that’s how.
There is no shortage of finance money.
Money won’t be invested in politically unstable environments where ‘Change’ can occur at any moment, in any direction to or against any person or company. This is, of course, where we are now with 1. The usual idea crazed Democrats and 2. a Democrat and Republican supported totalitarian democrat state that recognizes no limits on it’s powers.
This is lack of common sense when you did all the crap to stop smokers these folks now live longer and don’t leave money in the SS system when they die at 60.
Real smart thinking coming out of Congress critters.
New England heating oil is mostly imported. The dollar is dropping in value faster than oil demand, such that oil prices is increasing in dollars.
Also, but who knows, the old Farmers Almanac forecasts a really bad, cold winter.
Sticker on my car in Ombama Poster colors: “Chump Change”.
The article specifically talked about the gas bill in regards to heating. So I think comments on that are appropriate. Natural gas prices are down.
BTUs are, as it turns out, essentially fungible!
Last November there two kinds of voters: those who remembered the Carter Administration and those who were going to find out what it was like.
If you know any “swing” voters who voted for 0bama, avoid gloating while making the pitch for sane legislators.

For years, the MSM told me Bush’s numbers were in “free fall”, so he must have crossed 37% on his way to -385%.
This might turn some of the political discussions to Cap and Tax.
FWIW, The Farmers Almanac says for the north. It's usually pretty close to the mark.
I'm predicting a colder than usual winter here in the south, too. We're about a month ahead of "normal" as far as temperatures go. Highs in the 70s, lows in the 50s, the last weeks have felt more like October than Early September. And the oak trees in my backyard are bent double with acorns. Last time that happened we got two crippling back-to-back ice storms that winter. Locked up the city for a week-plus, each time.
Totally unscientific, I know. Just reporting what I'm seeing.
Mine says “Hope And Chains”
