Blasts the entitlement mentality of today's children....

"We must stop teaching them that losers get a trophy just like winners do"
“Glenn Beck Blasts America’s Youth As The “Me” Generation. WOW...”
Amen Brother Beck.
I went to a grade-school soccer event in the past week.
One of my relatives couched the winning team.
And I heard him admit that he had his team lay back in the closing
minutes so “they could score a goal or two”, as his team was ahead
by (IIRC) 5-0 in the closing minutes. Thus the team let the lagging
team get in a few easy goals.
It was a kindly geture to a team with less-than-good players.
The lesson left for my relative’s team may be one of mercy/kindness
in dealing with a “loyal opponent” in a sporting match.
But I did ask myself:
“What does this say to the winning team if/when a REAL opponent
bent on oppossing, nay, destroying the USA...will they go in full-bore
in order to win an unconditional surrender?”
Sure this is just a question from a foolish observer.
But I wonder if it will have an effect decades hence when a generation
will be called on to perform feats that equal or exceed those of
“The Greatest Generaion”.
Which, IMHO, includes the “point of the spear” guys/gals that are
at this hour, fending lonely outposts in Afghanistan while the
Commander-In-Chief takes day, after day, after endless days, to send
them support in the form of more “brothers/sisters in arms”.
I have a 21 year old. He's been through college (bachelor's and soon to be grad degree), has a job, and has had internships in the past, and he would have been mortified if I had ever called his workplace, or school for that matter.
I've never called or contacted his colleges or profs, in fact when he gets his grad degree in December, it'll be the first time I've really been on the campus. Same with his undergrad, we went to graduation, but that was it. As far as the workplace, I've never called him there.
He would be so MAD at me if I tried to interfere in any way...aren't these kids embarrassed that their parents are calling???
Or tell the mom...
“Make up the spare bedroom or prep the basement, they’re coming back to live with you. I just fired them because of your phone call.”
“Just wait until you have an employee who is a twenty-something and his/her mother calls you because you arent treating him or her right.
Youll want to get drunk.....”
No you fire the bastard!
The “me generation” was a long time ago. Now, most of them are retired. They didn’t do much real work in their whole lives (teachers, lawyers, managers and other recipients of big government). They’re Democrats and Republicans. They’re activists for outlawing new business starts or any other kinds of work on their neighbors’ properties. They’re NIMBYs and HOA nags with investments in foreign anti-American interests. They are environmentalists and animal worshipers. Many of them are demented from too much past drug abuse, sedentary tendencies and other unhealthy ways.
They are my fellow Baby Boomers, and they are still the me generation.
Glenn was great today.
He is right, the kids of today are the “ME” generation.
Parents are afraid to say NO. I had to laugh, when he said that losers get trophies in todays world.
The thing that people don’t understand is that if a kid loses and doesn’t get a trophy, they will work harder next time so they don’t lose and then they will get a trophy. If everyone gets a trophy, then whats the sense of working hard. This applies to everything in life. If you work hard, you will be rewarded..
For just a while I thought he was reading an e-mail I had gotten recalling how those who were born 40-50 years ago were tougher because we drank water from a garden hose, played outside till dark, called our friends parents Mr and Mrs So-and-So, etc. Then he veered off into railing on the Youth of today and I had to agree.
Oh geez, not that old lib talking point again. He did that Vicks thing for a damned photo shoot where he was making fun of his infamous capacity to weep. He said as much on his radio show right after he did it. Not exactly a big secret. Way to use Media Matters to do some big sleuthing, chief.
IMO, I think this is a bad idea. I DO think this is different than fighting a war, because there is a thing called sportsmanship. However, it's a bad idea because I think there are better alternatives.
First, you put in your bench players. Let them get a shot. They could play at 100%. Second, you can try different tactics or even suboptimal strategies to see how well your players respond. I don't like the idea of insulting my opponent by "letting" them score.
I don't think a team should ever "rub it in." I think it produces bad karma. For the record, I'm a Titans fan and during the 59-0 blowout against the Patriots, I did not think that the Patriots were rubbing it in. I thought the Titans quit. Especially at a pro level, there's no crying or whining-- as in real life.
My daughter’s soccer team got a trophy a few years ago. They did NOT win ONE game all season. After her coach handed the trophies out and we got in the car, she said, “Mom, I don’t know why we got a trophy. We didn’t really earn it.” She was 6 years old at the time.
....and the White House is filled with them!
That’s very true.
Glenn is right on. I really don't like the vast majority of people in my generation because of their ego-driven stupidity and flippant narcissism.
Sometimes makes me wish that I was born into the Greatest Generation.
Amen! How any member of that generation can criticize another is amazing to me. Hypocrisy that knows no bounds. Yes the young generation now is bad, but they do not hold a candle to the boomers....not even close.
Long way from The Daily KOZ aren’t we?
Plug it, geezer!
So if they can’t get us in the class war hate, they’re going to get us with generational hate? Divide and conquer...
