On the Troll Problem

Posted on 01/17/2010 4:22:23 PM PST by reasonisfaith

This is a response to the plan by Obama and his advisors like Cass Sunstein to “cognitively infiltrate” groups they wrongfully designate as targets. So the leftists think they’re gonna pull off an Alinsky-style revolution, for the purpose of overthrowing the United States Constitution?

There are many here who will support and defend the United States Constitution, and who will reject the tactics of Saul Alinsky, Cloward-Piven, and all of communism. There are many here who take communist icons at their word, considering them as enemies of the United States. These enemies can be defeated.

Sinister characters, with neither the courage nor the ability to make themselves known publicly, use Obama to steal our liberty. Like puppeteer wannabees, they direct their puppet and the leftist-controlled House and Senate to institute the slavery of socialism.

Their mental-slave labor comes from unions such as SEIU. Healthcare, climate legislation, immigration and exploitation of natural disasters like the earthquake in Haiti are just some of the fronts they use to overthrow liberty.

We’re on the right side. From tea parties to Sarah Palin, to the Brown/Coakley race in Massachusetts, we are gaining a stronghold. Climategate and ongoing cold weather, along with algore photos, have been a source of comic relief. This forum has unlimited potential to advance our front line as we fight to defend liberty.

But we still have trolls to deal with, trolls who think they can infiltrate Free Republic as they try to overthrow our free republic.

Now here’s the whole point of this thread. If anyone is disheartened by the reality of not knowing whom to trust on this website, there is a solution.

Trust the principles first, and the rest will fall into place. Most Freepers are trustworthy.

The fruit born by leftist trolls on this website--their comments--will in some instances seem a bit out of place. It will be presented buried and hidden from view, amongst conservative-sounding rhetoric. Eventually they violate one or more conservative principle. The most common tactic seems to be the attempt to plant a seed of doubt.

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?" (Matthew 7:15-16)

Yes, I think it a good idea whose time is upon us,many of us have been here for over 5 years, and we have a loyal following.

It also might make it harder for the DHS to intervene on a private site.

We also could have a combination of private/public.

Sundsteen may well be a card carrying CommParty member. And he is fanatical. This evil man no doubt froths at the mouth at the mention of the 2nd Amendment. Wants total disarmament--for the citizens--and of course the Nazi Gestapo/SS force his boss is trying to inflict upon us.

That said, my opinion on trolls is to watch them for a certain period of time--a pattern will form. I have seen posters zotted for silly posts or comments when they were new and probably harmless. Worse, longstanding members--Marines for example, good conservatives, Paulites--as if a mod took their comments personally.

I like to think new signups are attracted to FR because they find like minds and want to join the fight against the New Politburo in DC.

And yes, support Scott Brown! Help make Jan 20 Morning In America!!!

Infiltrators are not trolls.

I would like to be the official FR troll.

I take it that you are not afraid of cats.

Is this really more of a problem now than before? I think Sunstein may be playing mind games to seed paranoia.

Lately, there have been several zotted who had old sign up dates, but only recent posting activity.

Just because someone has “been here for years” doesn’t make them legit. Look at their posting history.

That’s really not a good idea if the mission is furthering conservative ideals. We want what we discuss here to be viewed easily by everybody.

Would a church charge visitors who stop by to learn more about their congregation?

Trolls can’t come close to competing with the members here, and I imagine that Jim is able to raise what he needs with Freepathons. If he needs more money to operate the site I’m sure we’ll hear about it! :)

This ends justify the means philosophy/tactic of theirs cannot be allowed to suceed.

It might even necessitate me calling the talkshows again, even though I have pretty much stopped that hobby.

Trolls have only two basic approaches to infiltration.
1.) Watering down the message in order to appear “more reasonable”. (i.e. moderate, worldly etc.)
2.)Going extreme in order to show outsiders “how scary these conservatives are” using their own planted posts.

I have noticed this... I've been a Freeper since 2003 and there generally aren't too many posters from 1998... and I know the ones who are...but all of a sudden there's a rash of posters from 1998, and none of the names are familiar to me. And they don't seem to know anything about FR either, and they ask questions about things they would certainly know if they'd been posting for 10+ years.

“Everybody is somebody else’s troll.”

Reminds me of a solution, mentioned here once, to the reality problem faced by liberals pushing global warming: warm is the same thing as cold.
