This is a true story: I had a friend of mine, he is a Black entertainer from Canada, visiting here in Maui. We were going to have a cookout with a bunch of friends and he was going to bring a lot of the food. Later at the party he told me that he had a bunch of chicken and ribs in his basket and he saw the watermelons. He was really hungry for watermelon and was about to put one in his basket and then he started laughing at himself and said, no way am I going to go through that check out line with chicken, ribs, AND a watermelon. He did not buy the watermelon and laughed at himself telling me this story at the party.

Substitute pecan pie for watermelon and you’ll have the perfect southern meal no matter what your race, religion, sex, color, or national origin! My dislike of watermelon has nothing to do with racism - it has to do with getting motion sick on every 35 mile trip home after eating watermelons from grandparents garden. The ignorance and pettiness of the main stream media never ceases to amaze me.

CORNBREAD MUFFINS, AND WATERMELON!”

“eating watermelons from grandparents garden”

My granddad, Tom Hill (first and middle names - hey, this is Texas), told the story of a friend who had a truck farm and grew watermelons. One year, he grew a watermelon so big they couldn’t pick it up, but the shadow weighed 167 pounds.

Same granddad who, when 7 year old me showed him a cockle burr, said it was a porcupine egg.

Watermelon in the middle of summer in McCulloch County - a lasting memory.

Ditch the mac & cheese, and yams. Substitute mashed taters, and white gravy.

Unfortunatly I cannot partake of Mondays’ meal, as it’s on the menu for tonight!

Clearly Limbaugh is a devastating combination of Mark Twain, George S. Kaufmann, and Richard Pryor, with a little Steve Martin (very early Martin) thrown in.

I was a little disappointed to see Sarah Palin join the political correctness police over the g@@@@@m retard’ business. To say a man has to curse properly, that’s getting pretty touchy.

I can’t believe that anyone thinks that Southern fried chicken is racist. The people responsible for this should be turned out into the storm.

It is a Southern thing. Everyone eats fried chicken no matter which race you are.

How much do we’uns love fried chicken? We take steak, bread it up, fry it like chicken and serve it with chicken gravy. It’s called chicken fried steak and it is great! You can even get chicken fried chicken down heah.

Ranking of take out chicken:

Hartz: (The Godzilla of fried chicken) a bright clean taste with excellent body and a wonderful finish. Accompany with a nice Chilean merlot.

KFC: Dark and moody with heavy body and a long lasting finish. Really great on frigid days. Killer cole slaw. Red wine is a must.

Church’s: Excellent chicken goes well with a beer.

Popeyes: Good chicken. Warning! don’t get the hot and spicy chicken unless you are a trained professional or a Cajun.

Chester chicken: Found mostly in gas stations, it is a solid entry in the Fried Chicken Wars.

Grab ‘n Go chicken:
HEB
Kroger
Randalls
Walmart

Various gas stations some of which are fantastic.

Note on watermelons:

Real men cut the watermelon with a broadsword. Do it before hitting the booze though.

My mouth is watering just thinking about it. And, yes, I’m white too. There is nothing wrong with a little down-home cookin’!
