Texas Governor candidate Medina speaks at Kingwood Tea Party
Ricky's Texas Tea Party ^ | 2-14-2010 | Ricky Saunders

Texas Gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina spoke to an enthusiastic Kingwood Tea Party crowd in far-northeast Houston Saturday interested in hearing her plans to reform the Lone Star State.

Medina made no reference about her Glenn Beck interview. However, the 20 or so random people with whom this reporter spoke before and after her speech seemed to accept Medina’s follow-up response released by her campaign a couple of hours after the Thursday morning radio interview. As Char with Texans for Nullification Today said, “If you go back and look at the radio transcript, when Glenn asked if she believed the government was involved in bringing down the World Trade Centers, Medina’s first two words were, ‘I don’t.’ If she’s guilty of anything, it’s for being verbose and not using a teleprompter.”

The Tea Partiers seemed to be far more concerned about the possibility of having to elect the “lesser of two evils,” incumbent Gov. Rick Perry or Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, as the next state Governor. Medina pounded on hot button topics such as Perry’s support of the mandatory HPV vaccination, the Trans Texas Corridor and his support of state college tuition rates for illegal immigrants, as well as Hutchison’s support of the Federal Bailouts, Amnesty for illegal immigrants and pro-abortion rights.

The former nurse turned businesswoman was met with raucous applaud when she said she was “unequivocally Pro-Life in all cases.” She referenced Florida’s Terri Schiavo saga, and how in contrast all life in Texas would be protected under a Medina Administration. Medina denounced the Federal government’s “interference” in Texas rights to decide on Abortion and other issues reserved to the States by the US Constitution.

State Sovereignty was a reoccurring theme in Medina’s speech. “Many of you stand with me in saying enough is enough. We’ve had enough tyranny and corruption from our federal government,” she said.

From refusing to recognize Roe v Wade in Texas, to keeping the EPA “off the backs of Texans,” Medina was emphatic in her refusal to allow “illegal Federal actions” if she were governor. Although Medina said she would be willing to support a Texas Resolution declaring State Sovereignty, she said she didn’t see the need to do so, as Texas currently has the right under the Tenth Amendment now – a governor with the courage to “stand up and say no” to the Federal government is all that’s needed.

Illegal immigration was another topic that met the approval of the Tea Party crowd. “When you cross the Texas border, you’re on private property. You are welcome to our state, but you need to go through the gate, not the river.” She indicated that because the Federal government is not meeting its obligation to properly enforcing the international border, she would be compelled to communicate her intensions to the Mexican government, while building up and eventually deploying the Texas National Guard to seal the Texas-Mexico border.

Medina’s passion on Gun Rights and a balanced Budget resonated with the Tea Partiers, as she pointed out the record of opponents Perry and Hutchison. “We need to elect citizen leaders, not more of the status quo,” she said. As Texas is currently $33 billion in debt, triple of what Perry inherited when he first took office, it would take until 2047 to pay that debt off. At the state and federal level, government must end its “insatiable appetite to spend our children’s money.”

I imagine those Police Officer’s families are surprised with what Medina said.

If Medina could have just admitted that she made a huge mistake then she might have been able to put things right and her supporters wouldn’t appear so ridiculous repeating her post interview garbage. But she didn’t and with this latest interview it appears she can’t. It is too late now anyway.

The real shame is the damage being done to the Tea-Party movement between her, the truthers and the Paulbots in general.

Who gives a sh*t. Seriously!

They do the same thing to Sarah and every other Conservative.

Stop trying to PLEASE the Libs. It’s a RINO tactic that has
gotten this State — and nation — to the condition it’s currently in.

So much for it all being that meanie Glenn Beck's fault.

Medina showed she is fully capable of spouting truther nonsense on her own accord. And she must be reading (and accepting) truther websites if she is spouting one of their falsehoods that can be easily refuted with a Google search.

She’s not a polished turd like Perry and Hutchison,

No, she's a truther turd with no polish whatsoever, and you are making a fool of yourself denying what now is obvious.

hmmm, a small biz innovator and owner is unqualified

It is a three person, including herself and husband company. As to innovator, a Google search for "medical billing" yields the following:

Results 1 - 10 of about 22,600,000 for "medical billing". (0.19 seconds)- Real innovative!

Thanks for the ping. I wanted to like Medina but there was always something off about her. She didn't seem genuine to me.

Then snuggle up to the warmth of Perry’s & Hutchison’s RINOism.

FOUR MORE YEARS! FOUR MORE YEARS!

Just what Texas needs.

I don’t think Medina would be able to beat Bill White.

I sure can’t add much to your excellent comments.

This interview took place AFTER Glenn Beck’s so she certainly had time to “think” about her true beliefs, if as she later claimed that Glenn Beck sand-bagged her.

You’re so right when you say that “”The real shame is the damage being done to the Tea-Party movement between her, the truthers and the Paulbots in general.””

The libs would tear her to pieces.

You set up a straw man case by claiming I was wanting to please the libs (a la John McCain candidacy). I was not. The libs probably love her, especially now that she's made an absolute fool of herself (or revealed foolishness already present).

My point is that she is running off the conservatives for crying out loud. Just look at all the conservatives she's lost on this forum alone!

What I meant was that she is just plain NOT up to the task of running for this office.

Sure the libs make fun of Sarah...and she HANDLES it (quite well).

Medina trips all over herself.

By the libs tearing her to pieces, I mean like in a debate. No way she could handle one. Look how bad she's doing already...and the questions will get tougher.

She blew it on what was meant to be a soft-ball question.

No need to worry about it...she IS TOAST and cannot possibly be revived at this point.

And yet in TODAY’s (Feb 14) Houston Chronicle:

Poll: Perry has yet to seal deal with GOP voters
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/6866579.html

-snip-

The poll found Perry leading with 45 percent support among likely Republican voters, with Hutchison at 29 percent and Medina at 17 percent; 8 percent said they were undecided.

-snip-

“He [Perry] looks good at this point: A 16-point lead and now the third candidate imploding,” Blum said. “He doesn't need very much to get to 50 percent. He just needs (Medina's) people to either stay home or vote for him.”

-snip-

Medina said she is not expecting to lose any ground because of the controversy.

“We've seen more traffic on the Web site, traffic comparable to that after the first debate, and more money and more fans on the Facebook page,” Medina said.

Using your ‘logic’, it would be some kind of conspiracy for the eventual 2012 GOP nominee to use Obama’s many gaffes and failings to try and pry 2008 Obama voters away from him.

A candidacy is a job interview to which Medina arrived unprepared. She showed up and all she did in the beginning was slam the other job candidates and the company for which she was applying.

Then she got up on the interviewer’s desk and shot herself in the feet repeatedly.

When it is all over and her political career is gone the damage to the Tea-Party movement will still bear the scars she and her fellow Paulbot truthers have caused.

A pox on her and all that continue to lie, spin and support her to the detriment of Texas and the Republican Party.

It is a shame she didn’t have the honesty and decency to run as a Libertarian, but neither of those appear to be arrows in her quiver.

For God's sake, have any of you really looked into her platform- her background? Has this woman even been vetted?

She wants legalized drugs.

She backs gay marriage.

She has not spoken to her elderly parents for YEARS. They had to find out she was runing for governor of Texas by reading the newspaper!

http://www.statesman.com/news/texas-politics/medina-hailing-from-beeville-learned-political-skills-on-229907.html?srcTrk=RTR_95609 What does this say about this woman's character? And rumors are begin to surface about husband Noe's past associations.

Take a look at some of the statements she has made: "It’s a shame isn’t it, that Republicans continue to ignore Hispanics especially here in Texas?’

"Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family?”

"Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture.”

"I believe we too often get into race when it’s immaterial.” (Obummer, is that you?)

I don't believe for one minute Medina's propaganda about wanting to strengthen the border! La Raza probably has her in their back pocket!

Glenn Beck has once again helped the tea-party stay in the Republican mainstreamby by weeding out dangerous fringe thinkers like Medina.

Medina is NOT representative of the Tea Party movement. She USED them- latched herself on to them. She’s a hard core Libertarian who has realized that the Libertarian Party will never win anything and that the only possible way to get herself into office is to do what Ron Paul did and wrap herself in the Republican cloak in hopes that it will fool enough of the voters enough of the time. Thank God Glen Beck outed her in time.

Retrieve your sombrero from the ring and go home Medina. You're Texas toast.
