Barack Obama may be playing defense on the domestic front, but hes clearly taken the offensive in an area not normally a source of Democratic Party strength national security and foreign policy.
In recent days and weeks, administration efforts have resulted in the deaths of 12 of the top 20 al Qaeda leaders, the result mostly of attacks by pilotless drone aircraft over Pakistan; the capture of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, number two Taliban boss in Pakistan and leader of the military campaign in Afghanistan; and the launch of a 15,000-troop attack against the principal poppy-rich Taliban stronghold in Afghanistan.
You didnt know that? It was all there in the newspapers. Of course, if you get your news from television, especially cable television, you probably didnt see it.
Bad news, cockamamie commentary and round-the-clock controversy, real and imaginary, is mostly all you get on cable these days. Why bother with good news, like success against distant terrorists, when bad news back home makes the viewers manic and drives up ratings.
But Dick Cheneys criticism notwithstanding, the truth is that Obamas on a tear against terrorism in two of its key breeding grounds Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Some Republicans have grudgingly acknowledged the success of the presidents stepped-up campaign against al Qaeda and the Taliban, but argue that its merely a continuation of Bush administration policy. If so, its Bush policy on steroids.
For the fact is the Bush team, in its preoccupation with Iraq and nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, did virtually nothing for eight years to counter the Taliban comeback in Afghanistan.
At the same time, Obamas trips abroad and meetings with world leaders have made real progress in repairing the damage to the American image abroad done by the Bush-Cheney policy of unilateralism and of disdain

typically, no credit to our troops, but they did get to mention ......others
I can’t respond to this tripe, not without repeated use of the “F” word and 2 or 3 “banned” words......
Its bush’s falt
C’mon Jet J — you know the rules about “Barf alerts!”
;)
BARF
My bad.
It’s late — we all have our senior moments (even if not a senior :) )
For the fact is the Bush team, in its preoccupation with Iraq and nonexistent weapons of mass destruction, did virtually nothing for eight years to counter the Taliban comeback in Afghanistan.
So now Bush was weak again. These morons are pushing that mantra right over the edge. As far as mentioning the ones getting it done, that is way beneath these narcissist assholes.
Add Cuba, Venezuela, and Yemen.
Without Bush, Bin Laden, Mullah Omar and the Taliban will still be in charge of the government in Afghanistan, and launching regular terrorist attacks against this country.
Not to worry about the National Security Strategy, because Codename: Darkshadow has you back, JJ.
LOL!
Has NOTHING 2 do w/BHO. Instead, there is a technical development that is very secret and has radically enhanced the effectiveness of drone strikes. Not going 2 say more.
BTTT
So, if bammie does not have a National Security Strategy documented, yet there is a strategy being utilized, one might tend to believe it is a continuation of the previous strategy.
But the communists sputter no no no no no no it is not the Bush-Cheney strategy because that was Iraq and this is Afghanistan! Beating the opposition in Iraq is "losing." Beating the opposition in Afghanistan is winning!
The communists are very quick to take credit and espouse the cleverness of the boy king in his leadership of the, the, uh, non-existent strategy?
And they expect American Citizens to actually BELIEVE that fairy tale?
HUH????
Wow, I have not read the Star Ledger for years. When I saw who wrote the article (John Farmer) I was not surprised at such drivel. But I am surprised that this dinosaur is still around.
