If you're married, consider yourself lucky! There's nothing worse than dating nowadays, and there's nothing worse than "speed dating"! Why is it so bad? What's it like? Read today's "Geeks On Caffeine" cartoon and see for yourself! NOTE: The author of this comic requests that you please visit his web site and refrain from copying the cartoon within this thread. Thanks! And if clicking over to his web site bothers you please save your complaints. They're just childish and they make you look like a lazy Democrat!
“Speed Dating” never sounded like a good idea on its face. They may as well call it “Hit and Run”
Speed dating is just a way to get introduced to a large number of people so you can figure out who you want to talk with further. I enjoyed it when I attended a ‘5 minute dating’ session some years ago. When they turned it into ‘7 minute dating’ it was too much commitment.
Another failed urban social fad.

I saw “Speed Dating” portrayed on the movie Hitch (so it must be true representation) and sadly it seems boring. You’re bound to find someone as good if not better from your friends or old acquaintances.

I’ve never “speed dated”, but is has nothing to do with “hooking up” (though I imagine it might lead to some of that, just like regular dating).
In speed dating a group of men and women (say 15 of each)who have never met, meet somewhere and spend about 5 mintues talking to one member of the opposite sex, from across a table, then move on to the next one, and continue this until each man has spoken with each woman for 5 minutes.
It is surely a gimmick, but it would seem like a decent way to break the ice and have low pressure conversations, that might lead to meeting someone compatible.
