What to say when, "What do you think about Obamacare?" is asked
3-22-10 | RandallFlagg

Posted on 03/22/2010 12:10:52 PM PDT by RandallFlagg

Last week, someone at work asked me about the Obamacare thing. I explained to him that it's a massive tax increase of at least $12,000 per family. He looked like I'd hit him in the gut.

He told someone else, and the reaction was about the same.

We need to put this thing into quick words for everyone to understand. There's still a lot of people who have no clue about it all. Something like what I's used:

"Can you afford a thousand bucks a month to pay for this?"

Their [Canadian grocery] costs were triple what we pay in southern Indiana.

Do they cross our border to buy cheap groceries over here, like we've crossed their border to buy cheap pharmaceuticals over there?

Those are great. I just got some action by pointing out the Karl Denninger article that showed up on another thread to my 35 year old son. Point of reference, he hasn’t been able to compute that this is a robbery of liberty. Then quoting chapter and verse from the law that says he is “not allowed” to purchase catastrophic insurance because he is over 30. Then simply asking “how you enjoying your freedom so far?”

The basic difference between every nation that has ever existed and the US is summed up in the universal phrase “it is not allowed.”

Something brief enough to place on a bumper sticker might be a good thing to have, too.

Magnetic bumper stickers, of course.
Librats have a habit of vandalizing parked vehicles that have conservative/republican themed signs on ‘em.

I explained to a couple co-workers today that because of this new law, our employer will eventually drop providing medical benefits to us as the cost will be more than the penalties he will have to pay upon dropping us. I then reminded them that the law REQUIRES EVERYONE to have health insurance whether you want it or not, and that it will be GOVERNMENT telling us the kind of coverage we will have.

They didn’t look very pleased with the idea when I was finished. Yet they were excited about it at first.

They had both voted for “TheOne”.

Stupid, stupid, ignorant sheep. I was totally ashamed of them both.

I just remembered one from the Clinton years: “Government HealthCare; all the efficiency of the Post Office, all the compassion of the IRS.”

I said something similar to another guy at my job. I stated that his ACTUAL hourly wage equals about 30-40% more, but he doesn’t see it because it goes into the cost for his employee-provided health coverage. And what he pays into it every month is tax free.

After telling him that he WON’T be seeing a 30-40% raise in his hourly wage after his employer drops his health coverage, he was really upset.

Point being is that when folks like FReepers, Limbaugh and all hear about these things, we UNDERSTAND the situation. We understand it because we pay attention to politics and national events.

Others need to have it explained in a way that THEY will easily understand.

I don’t know. We were 100 miles into Canada. There was no crossing over the border where we were at. We were there fishing for a week, so it was “tolerable” for a week. The walleyes and pike only cost us about $60 a pound or more at the tourist’s rates.

this is a plain old-fashioned Democratic tax bill, disguised as a “health “ bill, designed to preserve and expand the jobs and benefits of the parasitic class in DC. Nothing more...nothing less. Yours and mine health care needs merely interfere with their career plans.

Just what we need, 16,000 more IRS agents.

They’re just warming up. When has more ever been enough for the government?

I hope they run it better than they ran the Senate cafeteria.

“Government HealthCare; all the efficiency of the Post Office, all the compassion of the IRS.”

My wife mailed a package yesterday. The conversation at the Post Office went something like this:

"Ma'am, does this box contain explosives?"
"No, it's a book."
"Are there flammable chemicals in this box?"
"It's a book."
"Firearms?"
"It's a book."
"Contraband of any kind, such as illegal drugs?"
"It's a book."
"Is this a book, Ma'am?"
"Yes."
"That'll be $7.50."

I know of several businesses that are going to have to close because they can’t afford to have health care on their employees.

Same here, and my boss said he'd close the doors if he were required to buy health care for us employees.
