General Jim Jones (Ret) opened a speech before a think tank using a little joke to break the ice. He broke more than just the ice, he broke a number of rules of etiquette for all government employees beginning with do not stray into racial or ethnic stereotypes. One would think somebody who reached the status of General and appointment to one of the highest and most sensitive positions in our government would know better than to tell a “Jew Joke”. Gen, Jones has apologized for this faux pas. His apology was as follows; “I wish that I had not made this off the cuff joke at the top of my remarks, and I apologize to anyone who was offended by it." Unlike his joke that was delivered in person, his apology was a written apology which leaves one wondering whether or not he ever even saw the apology or was it relegated to a lesser employee to formulate the proper sentiment. All I can say is, “So Sorry Gen. Jones but your apology as it stands, being written and not spoken so we can judge the emotional regret and veracity, lack the sincerity leaving the insult the possibility of living on.” Let us hope Gen. Jones takes the time to actually give voice to his words and express honest regret for his tasteless remarks.
He could have re-worded it as an Indonesian joke.

If we’re going to ask the libs not to be so hyper-sensitive when someone is politically incorrect, we have to relax when a person steps in it and act like grown ups.
Yeah, he should have saved that one for later.. when some of the audience was nodding off.
Can that not also be rephrased:
If the libs are going to attack and demand any republican who says something incorrect, should we not expect the same reaction from them?

Put it this way, for an Administration that has been seen as hostile to Israel, telling this joke in front of a largely-Jewish audience was not what I would call productive.

Understood - and I do agree. In today’s world our skin is thinned.
I grew up with Carson, Buttons, Rickles, and the vaudevillians like Berle, Burns, etc. I laughed out loud at the punch line.
