I think he learned from Hillary, when she said she MISSPOKE when getting off a plane and bullets were whizzing all around.

I simply went to the VFW website. Found the number of headquarters and called.

Can’t hurt if others called and see if we can’t get them to issue a statement clarifying that he is NOT a member of the VFW.

Hubby was in the army from 1967 to 69 and has never once said he was a vietnam vet or a vietnam era vet,,he makes it clear when asked he never was in a ocmbat zone. Men know this difference.

"Blumenthal is NOT a member of the VFW"

He could only be a social member, not a full member. Unless they started counting doing Toys for Tots as foreign engagements which is entirely possible.

VFW assures me he is NOT a member. The woman was as upset as I was at this spectacle.

If enough people call perhaps they will issue a statement of fact about this liar.

This guy looks like Hugh Cronin (husband of Jessica Tandy...starred in “Cocoon”, “Rollover”, many others. Very leatherlike face, like he has had dermabraision several dozen times.

thank you for that and taking the time, so the VFW had no clue that he was gong to do this either then.
I hope the VFW comes out and states this to the media as it is disgraceful that he held it there when infact the speech was about him lying about his military record and serving overseas

Actually, we as Conservatives should let this one go. At least until after he wins the primary. From what I read, Conneticut’s primary is not until September. This guy is toast if he’s the candidate. If too much gets whipped up over this, he may not be the candidate. That said, you have to admire this guy’s hutzpa. Having a presser in front of a VFW surrounded by Marines. When he lies, he lies big!!

The democrats are meeting next week to endorse their candidate.

I do not believe in poliltical expediency in this matter.

He’s a liar and dishonors all those who served our country.

Just curious. I read his initial response that says he used “a few misplaced words”. What are misplaced words, words that you put somewhere and couldn’t find them or, words that were inserted into a sentence without thinking about the consequences or that someone would actually check them?

I’m not sure that was a VFW official organization that appeared with him.

Anyone from Connecticut able to determine the venue and the group appearing with him.

The tape that is shown on hotairpundit does not show the Marines behind him. If there were active duty Marines behind him, he could have gotten them together from a local reserve unit. They do things for politicians all the time. It does not mean that they support him. The guys behind him to his right were wearing Marine Corps League jackets so I assume they are former Marines. Though you can join and be a social member. I would say that in general, Marines are probably 2/3 to 3/4 conservatives.

"I do not believe in poliltical expediency in this matter."

Just like they taught me in the Marine Corps, fight your enemy at his weakest point.

Quote; “how the hell can tose vets stand there and support him and he even has the balls to stand there in a VFW of which he is not one.”

How could some of them support John Efin during the 2004 campaign? Simple, Liberalism uber alle!!!! Liberalism trupms religion, morals, family, you name it. A liberal will sell anything and anyone down the road to preserve and obtain power. Libearlism is a liberals deity and the altar upon which they worship.

BTW, how long before we hear the MSM say that Republicans are “Swift Boating” poor Mr. Blumenthal who simply “misspoke.”

Does the VFW have honorary memberships in the VFW so someone can come into the clubs? American Legions have ‘foxhole’ memberships for people who never served but want to be served cheap beer.

sadly you’re right.

they look for a D and that trumps everything, why they don’t get a grip and educate themselves is beyond me.
I could never support a party which cuts the institution I served or couldn’t give a rats ass about me

Conn VFW head critcizes Blumenthal on Vietnam
Posted on 05/18/2010

ROCKY HILL (AP) — The commander of the Connecticut’s Veterans of Foreign Wars says he’s outraged that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal would say he was in Vietnam.

A New York Times story on Tuesday said Blumenthal said at a 2008 event that he had served “in Vietnam.”

Richard DiFederico says Blumenthal had been considered one of the best friends a veteran in Connecticut could have, and it’s a shame he has let a false claim change that. DiFederico says Blumenthal’s remarks diminish the service of all Vietnam veterans.

Blumenthal says the report distorts his record and he has always tried to make it clear his Marine Reserve service never took him overseas.

Ron Rusakiewicz, a 65-year-old vet from Milford, says he was a Blumenthal supporter until he saw video of the attorney general’s 2008 speech on the Internet.

I called VFW, too. Their communications director said that the VFW routinely provides its space to almost any organizations. The supporters standing behind B were primarily Marine Corps League, and there was no way—other than by calling the CT branch sponsor of the event, and even that branch might be unable to identify any of the other gentlemen—to determine whether or not they were also VFW members. He, he said, had noticed no VFW caps.

The Connecticut VFW Cdr. has released a statement by this time (it wasn’t ready at the time of my call) that should be accessable on the CT VFW site. The National Office will take no position, make no statement. They’re audited by Congress, so they’re careful about IRS regs.
