A purported rationale for a summer recess in the congressional session has been to give members a chance to reconnect with constituents. A time-honored tradition for accomplishing this reconnect has been the so-called town hall meeting. The open format enables a congressman to achieve efficiencies of scale by answering a question or concern held by many at one time and place. Democratic leaders are advising Party members to skip this type meeting this summer.
We did this last year, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) said. We got hammered with angry demands that we not pass the health care bill. That wasnt helpful. We needed that bill. Hearing reasons why it shouldnt pass didnt aid the progress of the legislation. Now that its passed we dont need to get beat up for it.
As a substitute for the open meeting, Democrats were urged to schedule by-appointment-only get-togethers. This way you can be assured that only those who youve screened ahead of time will show up, Pelosi recommended. Correlating the invitation to meet with an invitation to make a campaign donation will help weed-out the antagonistic and build up funds for your reelection effort. Your time is valuable. You shouldnt just give it away to someone just because he lives in your district. Extract a reasonable price for this access.

John you have a way foreseeing exactly what these people are thinking. You must have ESP. LOL
Yeah, so much for representatives actually REPRESENTING their constituents.
Chicken sh*t bastards.
hello?! having the town hall meetings are supposed to be a two way street... if the people don't like a bill, they will tell you.. and you're SUPPOSED to take that into consideration. admitting that dems were getting beat up in ALL their town hall meetings ALL OVER the country... yet you didn't care... just shows we have no representation.
"we" needed that bill... meaning politicians. now they have something to hold over the heads of people in order to demand more tax money
if they are going to continue doing things that are against the wishes of the people... then the game is up. they will continue to push the legislation that gets them the most power... while we are forced to pay for their crap, even though we don't want it.
how do we make this stop? voting ain't gonna do it.
