Allow me to relate to you a story of an American citizens experience with the 2010 Census:
When the census began earlier this year, he did not receive the form. Then, if you recall, the government said there would be a second mailing. He did not receive the form in the second mailing. Soon afterwards he saw a notice in his regional newspaper that informed those having still not received their census forms to call a certain telephone number and request a form be sent to them. So, as a dutiful citizen, he called the number and made his request. In a couple of days, or so, he received the form. Within 48 hours he sat down and took the 5 to 6 minutes required to fill out the form and he mailed it back to the US Census Bureau.
It was finally done, he thought. . Thinking that all was well with the US Census, and himself he put the matter out of mind.
A few days ago, his wife found a notice stuck in their front door. It was a notice that a census taker had tried to contact them and was unable to do so and it gave a number to call. This time he decided to wait until the first day of the coming workweek. Since it was already Saturday, there did not seem to be a rush.
The very next day, which happened to be a Sunday, a knock came at his front door. When he opened it, there stood what he instantly recognized as a census taker dressed in shorts and a tank top and carrying a clipboard.

Why not just change the census to align with tax filings? It is simpler and who cares if it counts people who don’t pay taxes.
I recieved a census form in the mail, filled it out and sent it back. Two weeks later I got another one. A month later I got another one. A week after that a census worker showed up at my door. The day after that another one showed up.
Why not just have the Social Security administration send them the damn number.
uhhhh...you mean government rigged census.
Dog it, I used to hear that in engineering school too. (Who cares if I can't spel injuneer. I is one.) Idealist that I am, it really burned me to hear that. Don't taxpayers deserve better service than la-di-dah? Of course maybe you WANT to sabotage things if the gummit is so bad it doesn't even begin to represent the taxpayers' true interest any more.
The author is just realizing this now ? Alittle late to the game.
I really like your plan. You don’t pay? You don’t get counted. I’d like you plan better if you were to combine it with mine - no witholding, and all taxes are due as a lump sum the last week of October, just in time for elections every two years. There would never again be a question about term limits. Or government pork. Or bridges to nowhere. Or set-asides.
Sadly, those are the reasons it will never happen.
Up to a point, this is my story. My wife and I received no Census forms when they were mailed out so, being dutiful, patriotic citizens, we called the Census Bureau to request one. We got the same story, there was going to be a second mailing and we should just wait. If we didn’t want to wait, we could try a couple of places the Census Bureau directed us to to obtain a copy of the form.
I drove to a couple of the places that the Census Bureau said should have forms only to be told by the staff at those facilities that they didn’t know what I was talking about.
So, we waited. As the deadline for returning the forms came and went, my local news media began telling me that I was a criminal and unpatriotic for not returning the form.
Finally, a Census worker showed up at my house while I was at work and spoke to my wife. The worker told my wife that, since we lived in a rural, unincorporated area, there was NEVER a plan to send Census forms because rural houses could be so difficult to find or send mail to. After answering only the couple of questions my wife and I agreed to answer, the worker went on her merry way to our neighbor’s house.
The whole trhing came across to me as a typical government operation. Do I want them handling healthcare?
You HAVE to ASK!!!????
Your story is both funny and disgustingly outrageous at the same time.
Our government at work - PTOOEY!!!!
I signed up to be an enumerator and, for now, still get paid to go out and search for possible (rural)housing units. It truly is a CF on all levels. We get maps that aren’t near accurate, lists that are jumbled, and marching orders that change daily. Work comes in huge clumps or not at all. Redundant visits are commonplace. I will say that any cheating or dishonesty on the part of enumerators is quickly dealt with - at least in my district. But I must agree...if obamacare runs like the census, we are gonna be in a big world of hurt.
