Demand for buses from York County to Glenn Beck rally keeps growing: NAACP has criticized timing
The York Daily Record/ ^ | August 17, 2010 | Tom Joyce

Posted on 08/17/2010 5:31:32 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Ashley Kooser of Bailey Coach in York is handling reservations for buses going to the Glenn Beck rally featuring Sarah Palin in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28. The last time she saw such a big regional response for an event was, ironically enough, President Barack Obama's inauguration in 2008. She said the bus drivers making the-early morning trek to Washington that morning have been warned of likely congestion.

"They're expecting a lot of people," Kooser said. "A lot of traffic."

Kooser said Bailey Coach arranged for the buses in response to people on the Fox TV host's website writing of their desire for bus service to the event.

Meanwhile, some local Glenn Beck supporters have taken it on themselves to hire buses.

Andrew Tome of Red Lion said he recently had to cut off his personal caravan at three busloads. He didn't intend to organize such a large group. It started with him encouraging family and friends to join him, and it just took off from there.

Even after he filled all three buses, he was still getting swamped with calls and e-mails about it. One of the last people to make it onto the third bus was a woman from Tennessee, who figured it would be logistically easier to rendezvous with Tome's group in Pennsylvania rather than travel directly to D.C.

"It's amazing the buzz that's out there. The demand," Tome said.

Not everybody from York County is a Glenn Beck fan, though. Some national black leaders have accused his conservative tea party movement of racist rhetoric.

National NAACP leadership has alleged that Beck's scheduling the rally for Aug. 28 at the Lincoln Memorial -- the anniversary and location of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech -- was a deliberate provocation.

The president of the NAACP York chapter, Lee Ann Strine, agrees. She said the NAACP has taken the lead in organizing another national rally scheduled for Oct. 2, calling for jobs.

"If they want to agitate, they can," Strine said. "We're going to be positive."

But Lee Ann Burkholder, founder of local tea party group the York 912 Patriots, takes issue with that accusation. She listens to Beck regularly, and he's repeatedly said he didn't intentionally schedule the event to coincide with the King speech anniversary.

Burkholder's group has scheduled three buses to head down that morning.

"We could probably fill two or three more, but from what I understand it's nearly impossible to find buses, and we just don't have the manpower to put it together," Burkholder said.

Bailey buses Bailey Coach of York has arranged for a 26-seat bus to travel directly from York for the Glenn Beck "Restoring Honor Day" in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28.

In addition, the company will have three 55-seat buses originating in Harrisburg and stopping in York on the way to Washington.

The bus from York will leave Dick's Sporting Goods at Route 30 and Kenneth Road in West Manchester Township at 5:30 a.m., and arrive at RFK Stadium in Washington at 8 a.m. From there, passengers will ride the Metro to the Smithsonian stop at their own expense and walk about a mile to the Lincoln Memorial.

The bus will depart RFK for home at 4 p.m. and arrive at Dick's at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 718-0490. The cost is $50.

Once the York bus fills up, the company will make arrangements for the three buses originating in Harrisburg.

I had not heard about the law saying that only the NAACP can schedule events at the Lincoln Memorial on Labor Day weekend. /s/

It was an executive order signed by Duh Won right after his inaugural party.

Beck mentioned they knew about 1,000 buses as of a couple days ago. He said Obama’s “coronation” had 3,000. Based on the 1,000 buses alone they were projecting about 350,000-450,000.

Good question. It runs from 10-1. I was hoping Fox would carry it.

Meanwhine Jesse Jackson has been relegated to marching in detroit with assorted thugs, marxists and the Obama money crowd.

Funny thing is, I think these clowns are all walking into Beck’s trap again. Someone will be filming these other rallies and every stupid comment is going to be exposed on Beck’s show.

Just how many MLK holidays do they want each year?

I think Beck should push back, not fold. It is totally appropriate for this rally to occur at the time and place of King's speech. The two events share common values and goals. Those who would inject hate into the picture, like the NAACP, deserve comdemnation and contempt from all true Americans.

Wish we could go; have to get daughter to college that Monday so the timing doesn’t work for us.

Have friends going though. They are flying up.

He’s not going to fold. I don’t think he’s even mentioned these idiots being upset.

” National NAACP leadership has alleged that Beck’s scheduling the rally for Aug. 28 at the Lincoln Memorial — the anniversary and location of Martin Luther King, Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech — was a deliberate provocation. “

I didn’t realize that use of the Lincoln Memorial by any group other than the NAACP was provocative.
And what exactly is provocative about a rally
called “ Restoring Honor “ ?

Funny thing is that liberals can’t hold a decent march without bringing in organizations. I suspect many of those people will be paid for being there.

Glenn said on the radio today that Fox decided not to cover it except as a regular news item. He said he’d make it available though, didn’t say if that would be free, insider, or insider extreme though.

Given that he’s been doing extra work to not be making any form of profit on the 8/28 or 8/27 events it will probably be a free stream of some form, though maybe not live.
