Looking for canned cat food recommendations (for my cats, wiseguy).
We tried Fancy Feast for awhile, but las kittehs appear to like it not.
I've read a couple of the cat food threads on FR from around the time of the cat food recall back in 2007 (here and here), but wanted to hear what canned foods that people recommend/are feeding their cats these days.
HALP!
You Who.
Feed them dry catfood. It keeps their teeth healthy.
One of our guys has allergies so we get Blue Seal’s By Nature tinned food. No corn, soy, or gluten. But it is pricey. The guys love it, especially the fish flavor which is uber-stinky.
You need to use an institutional sized cans, so you can fit larger cats in them.
My cat only eats dry cat food. No fish, chicken or anything that is not in the form of dry cat food. She only eats from a white bowl and will yowl for food standing 2 feet from a full bowl until I point her to it. I think she has no sense of smell and only recognizes food by sight so she only eats what she was given as a kitten, before I acquired her.
If it is like the cat I have a couple of decades ago, you will just have to try various brands until you find some the cat likes.
Our two kitties split a (small) can of Friskies in the morning. We also leave dry food (Iams) down all day & we give them assorted treats (Pounce, Meow Mix) on occasion (like every couple of hours). They prefer the pate style canned food to the shredded. But they’ll eat the shredded stuff if I mince it with a fork.
No, my kitties are NOT spoiled!
let the cat catch it’s own food
You will add many years to a cat’s life if you keep their teeth healthy. We have four kittehs, and it’s dry food all the way.

Just started getting Trader Joes dog food cans for my “goggiez”, which is great, and knowing TJ’s reputation for value and quality, I’d suggest trying their kitteh food!
One tabby will eat only dry food and a little milk with dinner.
One tabby will eat 1/2 can of anything, most table scraps, and dry food.
One Doxi will eat any left over cat food wet or dry, milk, table scraps and cat poop.
My cat, who I named my username after, became diabetic after eating dry food. Specifically Science Diet that the vet recommended. Dry food is high in carbs and some cats’ pancreases cannot handle it. It also makes them overweight despite the labels claiming otherwise, and dry food has no bearing on teeth protection.
I was able to get this dry food addict kitty off insulin by getting him to eat canned food only. As for brands, my cats all shun the healthy stuff. They are fickle but they do prefer Friskies’ seafood varieties and Whiskas in the pouches.
My cat is very picky and also allergic to fish. We feed him a mix of canned and dry: Buffalo Blue dry turkey & potato recipe and their canned turkey & chicken
entree. He likes both a lot, but favors the dry.
Hee hee hee!
