Back in the ‘90s, there was a concerted effort among movie producers to develop a new Superman film. Few of the people involved were devoted to the comic. A plethora of treatments floated around, each of which left much to be desired.
One of the ideas that came and went was that Lex Luthor and the evil alien Brainiac would somehow blot out the sun, the source of Superman’s power, and unleash the monster Doomsday to kill him. I was reminded of this loony plot element recently when a friend forwarded me a peculiar story about a woman who now claims to own the sun.
Stick with me on this. I promise it will be worth your while.
After billions of years the Sun finally has an owner -- a woman from Spain's soggy region of Galicia said Friday she had registered the star at a local notary public as being her property.
Angeles Duran, 49, told the online edition of daily El Mundo she took the step in September after reading about an American man who had registered himself as the owner of the moon and most planets in our solar system.

I think I will charge her rent for the space on my property where her sunshine lands. She can stop the sunshine if she doesn’t like the charges.

Fine. We can all sue her for our next case of sunburn. Is she legally liable for any heat related deaths that occur? What about crops withering in droughts?
Wait until the Hacienda (tax department) charges her property taxes. But then it a foreign holding - but as she is a Spanish citizen perhaps her world-wide holdings and income are in play here. World-wide? Well not exactly sort of Out of this world.
Then of course she could also contest it as it is not being actually land, but it is an illegal unregistered nuclear fusion plant and I am sure she cannot produce the Environmental Impact statement. On the other hand the whose environment is it.

It gets worse, I think that Spain operates on a modified Napoleonic Code, ie. Guilty until the defendant proves their innocence! Thus she needs to prove that she doesn't owe tax or that she has a right to run an uncontrolled fusion reactor ...
I refuse to take her seriously till she gets a Mini-Me.
