TSA warns scanner-proof apparel will trigger a pat-down

Those companies who see the full body scanners at airports as an opportunity to create garments to block the scanners, and make a pretty penny, will be sadly disappointed. The TSA's blog has the bad news.

Blogger Bob, from the TSA Blog Team, said.

If there is something shielding an area and we don’t know what’s under it, we have to conduct a pat-down.

So basically, passengers should be aware that the use of these types of products will likely result in a pat-down. Some might think this is TSA’s way of getting back at clever passengers. That’s not the case at all. It’s just security.

Scanner proof apparel is becoming a growing industry, but this edict by the TSA should put a damper on the industry's prospects.

If you got nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. Welcome to the new USA.

I fly cross country every week.

I am telling you, I have every intention of telling the TSA I am gay and demanding a female to pat me down (believe it or not, there are 3 worthwhile at Richmond airport — but NONE at LAX or DFW).

The next step for the specialty apparel industry is to create garments that not just shield, but “project” a false, benign image on the scanner. This is the idea behind a certain type of active military cloaking. The fact that anything at all is there is almost undetectable.

I wonder if suits of medieval armor are specifically prohibited from entry. That and a few choice Bender quotes from Futurama...

What crap. A friend of mine had his shampoo confiscated at Atlanta Aiport....after entering the US. These actions are nothing more than measures to find out what the traveling public will tolerate. No one like being frisked, interogated or accused of wrong-doing by the turds employed by the TSA.
