Representative Allen West (R-Florida) gave the closing speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on February 12, 2011. Here’s what he had to say. He introduced an Army Sergeant, a veteran of Iraq, who trains those who guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. He talked about the difficult campaigns where Republicans won the House majority while having to contend with unreasonable accusations.
He pointed out that he had been called “The Worst Person in the World” 5 or 6 times (presumably by Keith Olbermann), and then with a little smile he said “And he got fired for it!”
He said “I believe that we are standing on the verge of the dawn of a new America, if we adhere to those fundamental Conservative principles, and those Consitutional ideals.”He quoted Alexis de Toqueville: “While democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.”
The next part of his speech involved what he called the “pillars of conservatism.”

We Floridians who love Allen West would certainly DITTO that! I also know that when folks across the country take the time to listen to Allen and see him in action, they come to love him like we do!

Allen West is certainly Presidential material... no doubt.. but there is a LONG list of folks who are as well... I would certainly like to see more of Allen West. He has a lot of weight to carry in the House for the next two years but there is no doubt in my mind that he will... the more influence he has in the House the more recognition he will get nationwide... Any FReepers who have inside access to him please ask him to CONFIRM his attendance at the Save America Convention March 18-20 in Tampa, Florida ! In doing so he will PACK THE HOUSE ! I suggest you get your tickets now if you have not already done so.

I really like Allen West a lot but I think that it’s too early to roll him out as “presidential material”. I think he should serve for some years until the “presidential” word is even brought up.
He has the talk, he’s doing the walk... he just needs some more time.

Excellant speech....glad he’s on our side....says it like it is.
I think Allen West would be a great President or VP. I don’t think he has much chance of getting nominated or elected in 2012, though. I think the VP spot might be a remote possibility. It would require an act of God for him to be elected President in 2012, though.
