Herman Cain Wins First Tea Party Straw Poll
Main Street Radical ^ | 2/28/2011 | James Devere

Here is a story that may not make the headlines, as it is so outside of the Mainstream Media’s misrepresentation of the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party held a straw poll vote for the 2012 presidential election this weekend. The winner, with 22% of the 1600 votes cast, was Herman Cain. Though he has not officially declared as a candidate, the strong showing with the Tea Party will help to boost Cain’s already fast-rising star among the fiscally conservative voters of the Tea Party. Minnesota Govenor Tim Pawlenty came in second with 16% of the vote.

At some point, the media should be embarrassed as they continue to push the mythical claims of racism that have plagued the Tea Party. Mouthpieces from Joy Behar and Janeane Garofalo, to former president Carter and just about anyone with a show on MSNBC, have made claims that the problem that Tea Partiers have with the government is that a black man is in charge. The results of this straw poll are so counter to that argument that some degree of professional credibility should creep into the consciousness of these reports and pundits, though that may be asking too much from the liberal crowd.

As for Herman Cain, we do have a candidate who is able to run on a record of creating jobs, of running some very succesful operations and a man who brings a fresh set of credentials to Washington without having an entire career of political favors for which to account. Here is a man who can make hard choices and stands, as I wish every politician did, on his record. We still have a lot of time before primaries heat up, but the field is begining to offer some new blood in the party rather than recycling the John McCains and Mitt Romneys of the world.

I see Herman Cain more as an utterly smashing pick for Veep. He makes a superb attack dog.

His advocacy for the FairScam makes him a shaky pick, unfortunately. But since it has no chance of passing, and since the prospective GOP field is so abysmal, Cain merits consideration anyway.

It is still very early, and Cain has made some rapid gains that are frankly, surprising.

I like his intelligent approach and ability to communicate his ideas. As I pointed out earlier, the media would have extreme difficulty in attacking him. He would immediately humiliate them and fight back with truth and facts. The media knows this about him also.

If the media fears anyone the most, it will be Herman Cain!

FairScam?

==

The problem with many of these wannabees is that, whenever they open their mouths, they lose points/votes.

Many on the GOP side are so desperate for a good candidate that, like them pushing for Thompson in 2008, they aren’t looking too closely at the individuals.

I am in a similar position to 2008 — so far, I don’t see any of the wannabees who would be ‘the excellent candidate’ for 2012. We have a bunch of old white-haired (and some black-haird) retreads. We have a bunch of Senators (100 out of 100 want to be President). We have several lackluster governors who can’t seem to keep their feet out of their mouths.

Several of the early straw polls have ‘other’ running at 80%.

Yeah, the current tax system is just wonderful, isn't it?

We stand a real chance of suffering another 2008.

One candidate in particular who is not only a lightening rod, but has countless skeletons waiting in the MSM closet, to be dumped on the public when the final declaration as a candidate is official.

We need to get serious about picking a real candidate without all that baggage this time.

I've met Herbert. He is an impressive self made man who knows business, economics and politics. He would have my vote.

Make that three candidates in particular.

“Yeah, the current tax system is just wonderful, isn’t it?”

Agreed. The fair tax would bring in all those billions of dollars of offshore money. New business would open and create jobs. But I doubt the govt will ever agree to let go of the ability to basically confiscate your money before you ever get it.

I applaud Herman Cain for at least bringing it up, which is a whole lot more than I can say for any of the other wannabe GOP contenders who seem to be completely content with the status quo.....

"The Tea Party held a straw poll vote...."

What's going on here???

I thought the Tea Party was a loosely-organized movement with no single "leader".

Who took this poll? Where did he take it? What phone list did he use to obtain the numbers of Tea Partiers? I could go on, but you get my drift.

It appears to me that this is a post by an obscure blogger (who probably took the poll himself on his own site) pushing an obscure presidential "candidate" and then publishing an unverifiable poll in order to manipulate naive readers.

Folks, this is nothing against Mr. Cain. I don't even know what he looks like. However, this article just proves that anybody can post anything with useless polls....and the fact that it's being done without basis in the name of the Tea Party should cause warning flags to go up. These types of articles should be shot down immediately as fraudulent.

This is going to happen again and again on this board as the various campaigns begin....be wary.

I am open to the poster answering my questions such as "what do you mean when you claim the "Tea Party" was polled?"

Very well put. The MSM will rip any one of the current field to absolute shreds.

On Friday, February 25-27 the Tea Party held a "Summit" in Phoenix, AZ. I was there. Herman Cain delivered a wonderful speech on Friday Evening. The Straw Poll referred to in this blog post was held Saturday afternoon. The list of candidates was LONG. I would love to see a readout of what the actual vote totals were.

Tim Pawlenty spoke and Ron Paul also spoke. IMHO, this was the Tea Party's answer to CPAC. No, I don't think the Tea Party has one single leader. However, the event was professionally managed. The speakers, vendor exhibits, and especially the break-out sessions were quite good.

It was not as polished as CPAC and there were many of the same players, but I think it was definitely a good start. I'm glad I went.

TS

Thanks for the report. However, my position stands. The article throughout gave the definite impression that the poll "spoke" for the Tea Party. This is wrong to do.

I'm an assiduous supporter of the Tea Party movement. I attend local, hugely-attended "Tea Party Patriots" activities .

If my local group took a poll at one of their special meetings, no matter how professional the poll was handled, and it endorsed, say, Donald Trump, and then someone posted an internet blog stretching across the fruited plain that "the poll showed that the favorite candidate of the TEA PARTY is Donald Trump", it wouldn't be very kosher, would it!

The particulars of the local Phoenix poll should have been spelled out in the first paragraph of the article. Thanks to you for providing this information.

I just strongly feel that the "unorganized" nature of the Tea Party movement should be protected constantly.

Now YOU'RE spinning. It wasn't a LOCAL Phoenix poll. It was a National Summit that has been widely publicized nationwide, including on Rush and at the Drudge Report.

You may feel however you want, but that does not take away from the fact that this was a National event, advertised as such, attended by upwards of 7,000 recognized Tea Party activists and now advertising the results of that weekend.

TS
