Very unusual. Because I and my friends did not apply for an SS number until we started working our first jobs (for me, a part-time one in 1965).

That’s BS because they didn’t issue SSN’s to children back then.

I know I got my SS number in the 60s when I was a teen and started working

I got my infant daughter a SS number in 1980 to open a UGMA.

I’m getting up there too. I can’t find anything that says what you needed back i the day. I guess I must have gotten mine in 1973ish. I guess I should ask my Dad how he got his.

I was born in ‘71, in Connecticut, and I remember my third-grade teacher taking the whole class to the local Social Security office, where we all got our cards/numbers. I believe I was 9 years old. If I remember correctly, I had to bring my birth certificate (the one with the seal and signature!).

I got a SSN when I was 11 yrs old in TX. That was in 1964, the year the Astrodome opened. I needed a SSN card to sell cokes and popcorn.
