MSNBC Ed Schultz:”Bush cut taxes for the rich in 2000 and everything went bad”(April 19+20,2011)
MSNBC The Ed Show April,19+20, 2011 | April 22, 20100 | sickoflibs

This week Ed Schultz has been giving a interesting view of history of the Bush Clinton years. According to Ed things were just rosy in 1999 under Clinton; and then in 2000 GWBush took over he cut taxes THAT YEAR and revenue took a dive (immediately) and the jobs fled overseas.

This is a great vindication story if you are a liberal (progressive) watching MSNBC, except there is big a problem. The much derided ‘Tax cuts on the wealthy” didn’t go into effect until 2003 after the ‘Jobs and Growth Tax Relief Reconciliation Act of 2003’ was passed. Unfortunately that doesn’t support Ed’s narrative’s timeline showing the economy diving in 2000 because of the Bush tax cuts 'on the rich'.

More idiotic, to support this fairytale Ed tells his viewers that Bush was president and cut taxes in 2000. The presidential election was in November 2000. Don’t they remember their Gore Florida recounts in late 2000? Don’t they remember the SCOTUS decision Bush v. Gore (December 2000)? Don’t his liberal viewers even remember themselves claiming Bush was ‘Selected not elected’ in 2000? Then how can they swallow a story that is based on GWBush having to be president and cut taxes in 2000?

Ed Schultz:

Well, here comes President Bush. President Bush comes in here in the year 2000 and look at this. He says, you know what? …….. In 2000, here come the tax cuts. Here come the tax cuts right here. And what do we have right after 9/11 and right after the tax cuts? We have a dip in revenue—….. So, then, we keep on going through the Bush years and the revenue starts to come back a little bit but the spending just keeps going…
The Ed Show for Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

and Ed Schultz again:

Take a look at this chart. Because this is where America is right now and this is where we have been, our road map that we have followed for the last 10 years. Let‘s go back to 1999(the Clinton good years).
Let‘s follow the line here.
Well, in 1999, it was Bill Clinton. Then, of course, in 2000(under no good Bush), here we go with the red line. We‘re starting to push jobs overseas to other emerging markets.
And then, of course, after the Bush tax cuts went in. Where did the revenue go? Where did the job creation go? The job creation went down, after all these big tax cuts were put into effect.
And the jobs went overseas.

These people, from 0dumbo on down are saying anything and everything they can to paint conservatives/ Republicans as evil people.
and still 0dumbo’s approval ratins drop
so hopefully most people aren’t buying it

A) GWB didn't take over until 2001, but we'll let that one slide.

B)If all the jobs fled overseas, how did we end up with a 4.5% unemployment rate?

C) What's an Ed Schultz?

Schultz is right.

Bush did cut taxes.

Everything did go bad.

Problem with his reasoning is that the two facts are not related.

Cutting taxes had nothing to do with bringing down the World Trace Center or escalating the War on Terror.

Kennedy, Reagan & GW Bush all cut taxes and the economy flourished.

I guess history is an an anathema to the left?

Let’s see. In 2008 I had a good job that I had held for seven years, large 401K, sports car and some nice guitars for fun.

Today, my 410K is largely gone due to a year of unemployment and my new job pays half what I made and 0 benefits. Also gone are my sports car and guitars except the cheapos.

FU Ed.

The depression started in August of 2000 during Clinton’s watch. There were massive layoffs and companies crashing. The liberal media tried to not report it all until Bush took office, then they reported every sadsack they could get the cameras in front of.

Back when Ed was on at 6pm EST there was this one liberal black lady at the gym who would watch The Ed Show (on one of the TVs) every night while he would be ranting about how all Republicans and Tea Party activists are racist and hurt the ‘working man’ and how Obama was making everything better.

Checkout the above post.

Democrats are absolutely shameless about distorting economic reality.

Consider that during the election cycle of 1992, George Bush the elder lost his job after Bill Clinton hammered him relentlessly for having caused the “worst economy of the last 50 years.” But in fact, as CNN’s Brooke Jackson has reported: “Three days before Christmas 1992, the National Bureau of Economic Research finally issued its official proclamation that the recession had ended 21 months earlier. What became the longest boom in U.S. history actually began nearly two years before Clinton took office.”

Clinton is generally perceived as having a stellar economic record during his own presidency, in spite of the fact that the economy was already starting to decline during the last year of his term after the stock market crashed in March 2000. According to a 2003 report by MSNBC: “The longest economic expansion in U.S. history faltered so much in the summer of 2000 that business output actually contracted for one quarter, the government said Wednesday in releasing a comprehensive revision of the gross domestic product. Based on new data, the Commerce Department said that the GDP — the country’s total output of goods and services — shrank by 0.5 percent at an annual rate in the July-September quarter of 2000.”

When GW Bush correctly warned the American voters about the nation’s declining economic performance during the 2000 presidential campaign, the same Democrats who had loudly criticized his father for “the worst economy in fifty years” had no problem at all accusing him of “talking down the economy.”

Bush inherited a recession from Clinton which was triggered in part by the Dot.Com bust in 1999. This recession was exasperated by the 9/11 attacks on New York's financial district and didn't end until after Bush signed the tax cuts into law. Clinton and HUD secretary Andrew Cuomo helped create the current crisis by lowering lending standards at Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and placing Franklin Raines and Jamie Gorelick on the board. Raines fabricated number gains for the institutions to increase annual bonuses for himself and the board. This criminal fraud also had the effect of forestalling public awareness that Fannie and Freddie were insolvent.

I won't call Schultz a liar because he is dumb enough to believe what he is saying.

even better, its the 'economically stupid' toons' era, that everything was money built on...nothing... but paper and imagination...

for everybody that made money, many more got the screw of a lifetime, then moreso when the house of cards began to collapse...

No, Progressive Ed clearly says that Bush was president and cut taxes on the rich in 2000, that is what caused that 2000 recession. Things were great under Clinton his last year in office 1999 :)

MSNBC is obsessed with polls showing Republicans as Birthers, maybe we need a poll asking Democrats what year Bush took office and then what year taxes were cut.

I hope someone reminded Ed that, during most of Bush’s presidency, the economy was very good. In Jan. 2007, Democrats regained control of both houses of Congress. Later, that year, a recession started.

Oh, that’s right! I forgot. Bush took office by August of 2000 and the liberals warned him not to make those tax cuts for the rich white guys.
