Terra Nova (total vanity)
Fox Lineup | 8/12/11

Posted on 08/12/2011 11:15:42 AM PDT by pabianice

Stephen Spielberg has remade "Jurrasic Park" for TV. It starts in September. It is described as a tree-hugger version of a time-travel story (Earth's atmosphere becomes so polluted that people have to flee back in time 85 million years.) An updated Robinson family (per "Lost in Space") is described as the main characters.

The trailers look like outtakes from "Jurrasic Park." My question: does this thing have a chance at "something over $4M" per episode?

Maybe it will at last explain how human footprints appeared with dino prints . . . .

The Dinasaurs will be smarter and wiser than the people.
And there will be a gay T Rex{Just Kidding}
I think I will give this one a pass.

Who needs TV when you've got T Rex?

I watched tonight’s series premiere and it was pretty much as I imagined it would be.

However, did you happen to catch a glimpse of the Obama money in the first half of the show? Yes indeed...it seems that by 2149 Obama has made it onto US currency. You can see him in all his monetary glory when the Jim character pays the bribe to get his baby daughter who is being hidden in a backpack.

Regards,

This show just begged for mutlichannel audio so I could turn off the @#($(@ background music. During the scene at the Stargate time rift thingy, I had to turn on closed captioning so I could see what the actors were saying. Apparently the sound director gets paid per decibel.

My overall rating: meh!

The special effects were good, but I just really didn't get into the characters. I had the same feeling I did when watching Jurassic Park: the the dinosaurs were more three dimensional than the people. I would have probably thrown my shoe at the TV if I had seen the Obama money.

A book series of similar topic with one way time travel into the past which I would love to see filmed is Julian May's Saga of Pliocene Exile.

they jump into the past... bring loads of futuristic weapons... and what do they use on the BIG carnivorous dinosaurs? sonic weapons and trank guns. nothing lethal.

such pc crap.

on the bright side, a bunch of people were munched in the episode... yet not one dinosaur (can’t even kill fictional, deceased, killer animals)

and of course... only the women were intelligent. all the men were half a step above neanderthals... the male children were emotional tools, and the only father figure had no respect from his children.

tone down the pc garbage, start killing the monsters trying to eat you, allow men to have half a clue... and maybe it’ll have a chance

Now I've gotta go back and check that - figures Obama would be on money that's worthless.

Someone should have read “A Gun for Dinosaur” and “A Sound of Thunder.” Two great short stories that will be read 100 years from now. Terra Nausea will quickly slide into deserved oblivion and be a question on a Friday bar drinking pop quiz in ten years: “Who was Clinton Spillsbury?”

Since one of my grandsons is crazy about dinosaurs I had to watch it to keep up with him.

Leader of the pack (why is he only a Colonel?) talking to the ex-cop, "We were sent back to get it right."

Had to smile at this line as it is a favorite opener for me whenever I encounter a reincarnation believer who says, "We keep getting re-incarnated until we get it right." My questions, "OK. Sounds good. But, who decides what "it" is? And who decides when we get "it" right?

So, no mention of what "it" is in Terra Nova or when they will get "it" right.

And apparently, they are off on the wrong foot as there are the evil "Sixers" who are the non-conformists, antagonists, warring, faction that managed to get through the portal. It explained what a "Sixer" was, something about the sixth group or travelers, but it didn't quite make sense. So, I'll just call them "climate change deniers."

And speaking of getting off on the wrong foot, the ex-cop "married to a woman" doctor(how refreshing that traditional marriage is still the norm in the year 2149) , is despised by his 16 year old son for having a third, unauthorized child. But same son is OK with his Mom who might have had a small part in that family planning decision.

Basic review from me is that the brief, infrequent, action scenes with the dinosaurs were quite good.

However, the story line sucks more than a 440Volt Industrial Strength Dyson vacuum on steroids.

Only two ways this can go. New writers or some fossil fuel and a match.

You care to take any bets how long it will be before they're compared to the Tea Party?

Shocked outrage. That’s how a liberal I know reacted to the premier of Terra Nova. They changed the channel, that’s how awful it was to them. 2145, and there, on the sign, is a representation of an ‘ideal’ family, a man, a woman, and two children. How could it be, over a hundred years into the future, and yet gay marriage still isn’t accepted.

Maybe that was just a bone tossed towards conservatives whom they figured would be ticked off about the show, I don’t know, but I’m going to have to watch the next episode just for that, as she busily works her contacts to boycott the show and ‘send that homophobic trash off the air.’

Though, biggest laugh came today, when my daughter noted, ‘Dinosaurs 6, people 0. And by the end of the season, it’ll be dinosaurs 120, people 1, but only because they failed to save it.’
