Still Think Big Brother Ain't Watching You?

This ought to instill an appropriate level of fear, then

The above photo by Ronnie Miranda appeared various places following the Stanley Cup riot in Vancouver in mid-June.

But the original is not just any wide-angle shot, for what he captured was actually a massive 1.0 gigapixel (one billion) digital image.

Such technology offers astonishing detail that is obviously useful to anyone working in law enforcement or security/intelligence -how useful?

Simply click on the pic above and then zoom right down by double-clicking on anybody in the crowd... pretty scary.

One can clearly see the faces of almost every single individual (prior to the trouble breaking-out) with just this one pic- and there were thousands upon thousands of people there.

Combine this with rapidly-evolving face recognition technology and the unsettling Orwellian implications are plain.

You expected to retain a speck of privacy in the 21st century?

How quaint- get ready to be disappointed.

Do note that this technology was simply something in the hands of a private commercial photographer: just think what the police/FBI/CIA/DHS/military must have at their disposal (!)

Alas, the unprincipled partisan snake (who speak with forked tongue) that still occupies the Oval Office provides constitutionally-aware patriots with additional cause for concern:

you've got to wonder how many 'gigapixel' photo crews the progs have shadowing GOP candidates and TEA Party events-

I'd bet money they're doing it already, not to mention DHS keeping an eye peeled for those (non-existent) white, middle-aged terrorists (and other Obama political opponents) Big Sis mumbles about periodically.

Scotland Yard and MI-5 fancy this sort of thing, too- in a big way: in fact they've already got one public CCTV camera for every 32 people in the UK...

appalling wall-to-wall voyeurism the DDR's incessant Stasi snoops could only dream of.

incredible. I found a really good looking blonde.

It's probably safe to assume that the same "focus" is being placed on all social and physical metrics in order to profile and identify..."threats."

Just wait until they think they know how to read "brain prints."

I really need to write that story...

I found heads missing from some bodies I found other heads superimposed on others. There are mistakes like this that could be use to say the photo is not a 100% accurate.

Privacy expectations, even while rioting on public streets and destroying private property?
I have no problem using this technology if it stops rioters, violent anarchists, flash mobs, etc.
The alternative is to shoot the SOBs on sight ... which no one has the b@lls to do anymore.

BEFORE THE RIOT version 1 - The Vancouver Canucks Fan Zone along Georgia St. for Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final was captured at 5:46 pm on June 15, 2011. It is made up of 216 photos (12 across by 18 down) stitched together, taken over a 15-minute span, and is not supposed to represent a single moment in time. The final hi-res file is 69,394 X 30,420 pixels or 2,110 megapixels.

what I find odd is that they do this, but they cannot stop identity theft.

The problem is not "using it against the bad guys...", the problem is when they decide YOU are a bad guy, and you've got no place to hide.

In Vancouver? Huh...

Actually, I just found a good looking redhead too.

Who'da thunk it?

Years ago I had heard that the NSA had a program called Echelon that would pickup audio from air waves and would activate or capture certain words.

Exactly- after 9/11 I had a “whatever it takes” attitude, but the relentless abuses of power, racism, and ludicrous agenda of the Obammunist era have a way of making you reconsider a few things.

In something related-
A few months back I was made aware that a violent fugitive was holding-up in a house a 1/2 block away from my own. I sent an "anonymous" tip to the authorities from my home PC that connects to the internet through an "anonymous" proxy. 10 minutes later, there were agents at my door asking me if I knew anything about the fugitive I'd reported. They never said anything about my "anonymous" tip, but my house was the only house they stopped at on the block.

Something is not quite kosher with the crowd pic. Its been altered in some form.

Got the gigpixel site (click on the pic) Find the Hamilton street sign then place your cursor on it and zoom in till you can make out people's faces well.

Now look to 11 O'clock postion for a street lamp that is above the crowd's heads place your mouse on the upper left hand corner of the street sign amd then move it toward the street lamp. As you move your cursor towards the street lamp look for a guy wearing a Cincinnati Reds Cap. the guy to his lower right wearing sunglasses has his head sorta removed from his shoulders. Follow the wires to the right and you will find a guy in a green shirt with part of his face gone.

I wonder if this is in the original pic or is it some artifact from the zoom process?

There is no such thing as being “anonymous” on the internet.

So, how many London rioters have been identified with all this high-tech surveillance?

And being concerned about your privacy is a character trait of a possible domestic terrorist. Just ask the FBI.
