IMO Perry made a big mistake on the immigration issue and compounded it by casting inuendos against those who disagreed with him. In the earlier debate, he said some people were against in-state tuition because they didn't like people with different sounding last names. Last night, if you didn't support in-state tuition for illegal aliens, you had no heart.

Perry took a page out of the Bush/Rove/McCain/Graham playbook, which used epithets as bigots, racists, and nativists against those who opposed amnesty. These criticisms just reinforce the Democrat branding of the GOP and alienate minorities who perceive that they are not welcome in the party. Moreover, being branded as a “racist” political party hurts the GOP in recruiting new members, regardless of race or ethnicity. America is not a racist country and no one wants to be associated with a racist organization.

I have no doubt that should Perry win the Rep nomination, Obama will try to brand him as Dubya reincarnate.

From his garbled speech, I wondered if he was having a small stroke.

Jim Demint. Now *there’s* a game-changer.

What a conservative. He’s THE MAN.

I agree that he overplayed his hand with the “you have no heart” BS

I would have liked Chris Christie to get in two months ago.

But after last night I came to the conclusion that if we are going to win this thing and I have to vote for a RINO, I might as well get in with Mitt. He’s got the money and is battle tested.

I look at it this way, Romney made a major mistake on Romneycare and now disavows it. Perry meanwhile doubled down on a massive mistake on immigration.

I can’t trust either guy, but one at least claims he’s seen the light on his major problem issue.

Add in the fact that Obama would likely run rings around Perry at a debate, and I’m off the Perry bandwagon. Good to see a lot of other Freepers saw the mess I saw last night.

Props to some Texas Freepers who warned us about this back in July. I didn’t want to believe them back then.

he would give the illegals working here “guest worker” status allowing them to live here legally

WHAT????? Don't you know that is exactly what we want! Guest workers have no path to citizenship, they go home when there is no work, they only come in when employers can't get Americans for the jobs. Guest worker means the employer is sponsor. That's what we've been trying to get for years and amnesty crowd refused to accept it. Where on earth have you been?

Yes, it was a terrible performance, and I am sick of doing his talking for him.

If he doesn’t step it up, he IS toast.

We can only hope. I thought O’Bama was the dumbest candidate in the race. I stand corrected.

The sad part is, instead of making those points forcefully and repeatedly, he went to that heartless line. He could have made this more about the awful Federal government forcing Texas and Arizona and so on into some terrible spots where there were no good solutions - and he would have come out just nicked a little.

That’s the tragedy to me.

The 3rd rail for Republicans is coddling illegals and government run healthcare.

I'd rather offer incentives to US citizens...

What is it that you people don't understand that it is NOT an "incentive!"

Why would we want to reward the off-spring of people from other states who don't get it?

Count me as two. You’ve written out what I felt about Perry after last night’s debate. It’s his coming across part... buffoon, indeed.

Kids from other states can get the same deal if they live here for 3 years.
