Perry Proposal for Part-time Congress Called Ludicrous
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 18 Nov 2011 | John Semmens

Posted on 11/19/2011 10:52:32 AM PST by John Semmens

GOP presidential candidate Texas Governor Rick Perry’s suggestion that the country would be better off with a part-time Congress was assailed by House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer (D-Md).

“Mr. Perry’s notion that Americacould get along with less government is ludicrous,” Hoyer asserted. “If we only spend half the time governing this country, we’d only be able to do half as much. That would mean half the spending, half the taxing, and half the regulating. I don’t think the American people would stand for that.”

Hoyer’s assessment was backed by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif).

“Governor Perry doesn’t understand the importance of our work if he thinks we can do it in half the time,” Pelosi argued. “If he had his way, people would be cut adrift from the nurturing and guidance government provides and left to fend for themselves. Taking care of Americans is a full time job. To think otherwise is just nuts.”

Confident as they are in the absurdity of Perry’s proposal, both Hoyer and Pelosi have declined invitations to publicly debate the issue with him face-to-face. “That would give credence to an idea that everyone who truly understands how government works knows is out-of-bounds,” Pelosi said.

I agree that the Congress should stay home for OVER half of each year. Better yet: only meet once every two years!

Another timely peek at the insanity that is the Democrat frame of mind. Thanks for another good one John.

If the suggestion was truly ludicrous, Pelosi and Hoyer would have ignored it.

Rick may be on the right track. I mean, when the fools have enough time to pass a 2000 page piece of legislation but didn’t read it, perhaps they need to be sent home for a year to read the crap they claim is good for the nation. And they need to draw NO PAY during their yewar at home and only get paid when they come back if they can show they’ve read the entire bowl of spittle. we might see them writing shorter and less convoluted legislation, and using their time wisely rather than shmoozing lobbyists and playing insider trading schemes.

Might also want to limit the number of bills each member can introduce or sponsor. One apiece would be plenty in my opinion.

Yes, the article satire but Perry can't even keep the Texas Legislature on target long enough to take care of business and they only meet every two years for 140 days. But it gets worse, he called a special session this year and couldn't get anyone to show up so he had to call a second session and still not everything was accomplished. And lets not even talk about him letting them hide out in NM for six weeks when they don't get their way. Heck, he can't even keep them in the room long enough to vote so they send in interns or have other legislators push the button for them. That's some good leadership there, huh. Not.

I am not for Perry BUT I give Perry an “A” for effort in this plan..
Its brilliant.. sets the right tone.. makes the right pitch and harmonizes with reality..

I like 9/9/9 coupled with Perrys plan... over ridden by Newts plan.. boguarded by Michele Bachmann..
NOW we’re talking serious HOPE & CHANGE....

I like them all... the last thing the federal government Needs IS more money...
