U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once said, Sunlight is the best disinfectant.
As a former law professor Barack Obama might have heard of Brandeis famous quote but it does not look like he understood it.
Last week Obama has decided to spend more than 400 million of our tax dollars to follow the lead of the United Nations which has declared high speed internet access to be a basic human right. During its remarks on this new program, Obamas teleprompter talked up the usual Democrat class warfare divide and conquer stuff.
But the money quote came from Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack. His remarks included the wonderfully prophetic assertion that this would help low-income Americans in a variety of unimaginable areas.
Its hard to disagree, but I doubt that Vilsack sees the same future as those who understand the continuing rise of conservatism foresee.
Armed with the keys to Massa Democrats internet library the inmates of their plantation will soon be able to read and write in unimaginable ways. The Dead Tree media newspapers controlled by liberal Democrats- are fading into the sunset. At the end of 2010, a Pew report spelled out the bad news for the liberals hard copy propaganda machine: For the first time ever more people get their news from the internet than from the old media.
The certain doom of Democrat control of the news 65% of 18 to 29 year olds now get their news on line.
In 2009 a Washington Post poll found 84% support for Obama among these voters, but the same poll taken last month revealed that their support had dropped to just 52%. Perhaps more telling is the recent findings of Democracy Corps
.. groups support for Obama had dropped below 40%;

I do not think it is the federal government’s place to help ANYONE, rich or poor, improve their ‘unimaginable areas’...
It would if it existed in a vaccuum. But they also want to control the internet and its content, control access and a host of other steps to censor and deny internet freedom.
If they get what they want, by no means assured, it won’t matter if its high speed propaganda or dial up propaganda....
The truth stands on its own. The printing press gave it a small place to stand. The internet gives it the whole planet. Without it, Dan Rather would still be at CBS and nobody would have heard of the Swift Boat Vets (Kerry just might have won). And in both cases, the MSM was supporting the loser.
Imagine if the sea of obama supporters finally got to actually read the conservative viewpoints, and not a caricature of them. The nation could truly change.
I just wish I had internet at my home! No DSL or Cable, and my T-mobile phone worked great as an Edge wi-fi hotspot for about a month and then it died and hasn’t worked for over two months. Just that tower. And I’m on the phone with them every week or so.
But I’m off topic. Sorry...
In the same 'hoods that this is targeted for, a Cadillac Escalade and 'tats are a "basic human right", also, so do we (THE TAXPAYER) expect that it should be funded by us, too?
If you don't work for a living, you are entitled to ZERO.
Electrification, Universal Telephone service, and the Interstate Highway system transformed the country from an agrarian to a modern industrial state, and none of these would have been possible without government sponsorship. Universal broadband will do the same in propelling us forward into the 21st century information age. It's what the "Promote the General Welfare" clause of the Preamble to the Constitution is all about.
The tragedy is that for a fraction of the cost of all the useless "stimulus" packages enacted over the past decade, we could have created a universal fiber infrastructure delivering low-cost Gigabit connectivity to the entire country. The transformative effect of having such an infrastructure is impossible to overstate.
