US Shock Jock Glenn Becks Internet-only network is launching a series aimed at showing people how to move off-grid.
GBTV, which the conservative firebrand launched as he was exiting Fox News this past spring, is prepping Independence U.S.A.
The series follows the Belcastro family as they try to live off the grid in a post-apocalyptic America. Thats near identical to the History Channels Apocalypse, PA, in which the same heavily-mustachioed lead character Frank Belcastro introduced himself by declaring: My name is Frank and Im not crazy. I know the worlds not ending anytime soon. But just in case, I want to be ready.
Belcastro and his family will do such things as build a car that runs on wood in the event that gasoline supplies are interrupted; become an expert hunter in case grocery stores are no longer in existence; and make his own alcohol for barter on the off chance the dollar collapses.
Independence U.S.A. is the perfect way for GBTV to enter the reality genre and promises to be an entertaining and informative look at how one family tries to grapple with their concerns for America, says GBTV programming president Joel Cheatwood of the series, which will be jointly produced by GBTV and The WorkShop. Adds Belcastro: This show, for me, is a fun and sometimes funny way to get people to open their eyes and see whats going on. Americans are so reliant on the infrastructure around them but when you can create something with your own hands and everybody works as a team, everybody does a part, you can focus on the positive of this.
The reality entry will join a slate of original programming that includes Liberty Tree House, Mercury Theater and the comedy news show The B.S. of A, along with Becks two-hour show, which s broadcast live weekdays from 5 to 7 PM.
Does anyone get this service? I never run into anyone that does and most of them listen to him on the radio. You just never hear anything about GBTV anywhere.
If you go off grid does that mean you also have to go off your meds?
I subscribe to it and I think it’s awesome!
I owuldn’t be surprised at all if we are all off the grid sooner rather than later.
But at least we got green energy to rely on, yeah.
He has a great show every night. You can watch him on your P.C. or get a little device called a Roku.
I've been monitoring GBTV progress, but haven't joined yet. What is amusing are the Anti-Beck types spewing their venom on his discussion board....who have obviously purchased an annual subscription in order to do so. And there are quite a number of them. Can anyone explain that for me? Buying a membership simply to dump on Glenn. Just goes to show that: in Allah's garden there grow many kinds of radishes.
Got a Roku this Christmas from the wife and was debating getting GBTV just to test it out. I like Brian Sack and I see he has a show on the network. I just never hear anything about the network good or bad except on the radio from Glenn.. It is strange
GBTV is great. A super value for the money, and his show is better with 2 hours a night.
He has a discussion Board? I was ranting about the last one he has which he launched in 2005 having been closed in 08. If he launched I new one I was not aware. I would enjoy posting with people who think a like. But if the anti-beck crowd got in then it should like Hannity forums where the left walked into the site to trash everyone against them. made for some interesting discussions.
I suspect that's going to become somewhat difficult...
What’s the link? He obviously is not promoting it and that could why the only ones finding it are from the left.
I heard spell check doesn't work off-grid.
I found the board. It is new because about5 months ago I was on FR telling a person that the old board was gone and I actively searched for it and could not find it. I haven’t been at his site in a few weeks despite having a subscription. I see the link.
Gonna share?
I am a “townie”, with a skill-set that demands I make my living in the big city. Unable to afford a farm with plow-share and horses to go with it.....my catastrophe planning kit presently includes a cyanide tablet and a stack of Grateful Dead albums.
Hi, sorry I got distracted. I was referring to http://www.theblaze.com/ where you can post comments, but need a membership. His other Radio/TV site is getting huge with many different shows and services. He must be doing ok, one would have to guess.
Sorry again, here..... http://www.glennbeck.com
I’ve had it long before he even announced GBTV. It was called Insider Extreme at that time. GBTV is great. You can watch the shows live or on demand archive all the way back to his first show on September 12, 2011. I have the $9.95/month plan. It’s worth it. In two hours on his own network, he’s able to cover subjects better and in more depth than he could on FNC.
You don’t need to pay to post at The Blaze or to listen to his radio show on his website.
I haven't watched it much, but I think "The B.S of A" is on once a week, every Friday, and "Mercury Theater" is on weekday afternoons before Glenn Beck's show. I watch Beck live online and "Mercury Theater" on demand in the evenings.
I tried to leave messages a few weeks back, but couldn’t. It’s a big site now and you need membership for a lot of it. To be truthful, I forget exactly where I was trying to post in the system when it asked for a log-in. So many sites want money now, it’s hard to decide.
The board is like this site, it’s free to join and you need a screen name. The Blaze is not part of the GBTV subscription.
I went off the grid by purchasing a home in the beautiful Honduras countryside far, far away from Obamamerica’s increasingly onerous and soaring taxes, restrictive regulations, and political oppression. And I’m not alone. When I ask one Honduran who had returned to his homeland after living for 15 years in the US (legally), he replied in a single word: “Freedom.”
He moved to Texas over the CHRISTmas break. Should be an interesting show.
You can get his internet show for free for two weeks. It's not one of those gimmicky deals where you get two free weeks if you sign up for a year.
The first channel I turn on when I get home from work use to be FOX News. Now it is GBTV. And my 10 year old loves Liberty Treehouse the show geared for kids.
Same here. The only show I watch on Fox News anymore is Red Eye. At least the guys on Red Eye know they are being farcical. If that’s even a word.
I get it. I subscribed the first week. It was like $60-70 for the year.
Same here. I find FOX to be controlled opposition anymore. I rarely tune in.

I recently discovered Red Eye & I love it! I have even been known to give up my beloved nap after work to watch. I wish it was on later.
Great show. I love it. You need to get yourself a DVR.
“Does anyone get this service? I never run into anyone that does and most of them listen to him on the radio. You just never hear anything about GBTV anywhere.”
I do, and although his show is good, I’m seriously thinking of cancelling. I’ve always been a GB fan, but he’s wearing a little thin with me lately. He recently announced another upcoming event called “Restoring Love”-——really? Yet another one? And the title just strikes me as too touchy-feely. Also, GBTV customer service is HORRENDOUS. For quite a while I had to spend hours on the phone——two hours holding, another hour talking——trying to get the problems with the service ironed out, and then they would start again the next day. Then Glenn shut down the phone customer service line, and left only an email option, which was pointless. I would email with my problem and get a robotlike response which said I needed to get high-speed broadband (which I have).
That’s okay, because my speedy fingers do.
They would do well to watch “The Obselete Man”.
The biggest problem is A/C. If I could run a compressor without A/C I would be completely off the grid. Right now I heat my house with wood. I have a propane tank that runs the H20, frig. I still am on the grid ONLY because of A/C. If I could live without A/C I would be independent.
You may be righter than you know. We are setting up an alternative off grid electrical system to use when the grid goes down or when the smart meter decides we have used our alloted KW for the month and shuts us off. We are going to suck as much electric off the grid as possible and save our system for when the train runs off the tracks. Probably the only thing we will have to give up is AC in the summer. Its goin to be mighty sticky in GA. LOL!!
bump
I try to listen to Beck on the radio, but I can’t stand the two guys he has on with him yucking it up. I don ‘t know how he expects people to believe he is drawing attention to grave matters when every comment is accompanied by a live laugh track.
