Eurocrats blame the euro crisis on Britain and America—obviously
Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | January 16th, 2012 | Daniel Hannan

Who is to blame for the eurozone crisis? The governments that ran up the debts? The officials who fudged the criteria so that Italy and Greece could join? The dolts who dreamed up the single currency in the first place? Nope: it's those wicked Anglo-Saxons again.

In Die Welt, the EPP's Elmar Brok claims that the US has launched an economic war against Europe. For those who can't read German, here is a rough summary of his argument. The US ratings agencies, he says, had no conceivable reason to downgrade nine eurozone states last week. What this is really about is a political project aimed at advancing 'Anglo-Saxon interests' in Europe. Americans have been becoming increasingly anti-European, as Mitt Romney's campaign shows. (I have no idea either, but that's what he says.) Then again, it's not really their fault, since they've been fed lies by Anglo-Saxon media moguls for decades. …

The agencies were far too optimistic in the run-up to the 2008 crash because they trusted the assessments of the EU governments; they can't afford to repeat that mistake. But what's alarming here is not the EU's hostility to the English-speaking peoples, nor yet its distrust of free markets: we're used to both those things. No, what's truly terrifying is the extent to which the Brussels elites have switched off the real world and taken to screaming at the bearers of bad news. When leaders announce that they intend, not to tackle a problem, but to regulate the way it is reported, you sense that the end is near.

Pack of racist liars. They caused the crisis, not the "Anglo-Saxons". The true face of the EU, for those who haven't yet seen it.

I would disagree with you.

The hub of trade is still America, EVEN after Obama has done his best to drag it down. A recession or intended disruption at the hub takes down the rest of the economies.

The marginal economies will get hit the worst as the donations drop off...

Substitute "the Jews" or "Zionist/Zionism" for US or Anglo-Saxon, and this is right in line with European traditions.

It's still the ECB that triggered the crisis. Obama's a pawn in the Eurocrats' game; he even admitted in 2009 that he follows their lead.

I'd say they lump them all in together at this point. Their rhetoric targets Anglo-Saxon and Jew "Zionist" alike after all.

Pretty amazing; they blame poor socio/economic policies at home on Jews/Americans/Brits but cannot even talk of the social and economic disasters caused by Arab/islamic incursion.

Americans by this time barely recognize any differences between "white" people of any stripe so long as "our" spanish speakers elect NOT to identify as white. Most Americans (of any hue) simply can't get their heads around arguments isolating Anglo-Saxon from Gaelic, from Germanic, or from Polish. (Russian is even kind of difficult because we mostly envision some Nordic archetype as being Russian.)
