Give Boobs a Chance, reads the sign at the pink Boob Camp desk where I registered for my first Susan G. Komen race. As I crossed the finish line to the applause of grateful survivors, I sensed the praise of my mother and grandmother, in whose honor I ran. I return to Komen events, impeccably managed by flocks of dedicated volunteers, for the sense of community and because I feel like Rocky in a fight to reorder global karma to help Komen realize its goal to end breast cancer forever, the disease that kills more women worldwide than any other cancer.
Imagine my dismay as Facebook exploded with denunciations and contempt for the iconic breast-cancer advocate who'd just announced that it would cease funding Planned Parenthood, creating a bitter rift involving the abortion debate.

Is this your blog?
People have a right to criticize Komen for their stupidity of funding the billion dollar corporation that slaughters babies. Komen can go burn down for all I care.
People have a right not to agree with Komen and a right not to donate to it. People who think giving to Komen helps stop breast cancer are deluding themselves.
At least this next time, many many people will know that a good deal of their funding is going to help slaughter innocent unborn and newly born American children. Didn't I read somewhere where only 20% of their money that's collected actually goes to cancer research?
And does anyone anywhere know of a charity (existing on donations) that turns around and actually give a lot of those donations to a 1/2 billion dollar self-sustaining and highly profitable organisation?
If Susan G. Komen is really “for the cure”, then they will stop funding abortion, which is causally linked to breast cancer.
It’s a bi-monthly political commentary in the Aspen Times. blog is elsewhere
The author is beyond hope if she really believes any cancer group truly wants to eliminate whatever cancer they are fighting. They are fundraisers. If there’s a cure for cancer what does that do to a ton of people and companies, economically?
Why don’t you want to wear the ribbon?!?! /seinfeld
It's considered good form here at FR to post your own blog articles in their entirety regardless of where you have them posted.
Not only cancer groups.
Drug companies that make cancer and chemo meds. Drug companies that make meds to offset the effects of cancer drugs. Hospitals that treat a lot of cancer patients. Cancer surgeons. Companies that make supplies for cancer patients. There’s enormous industry built around cancers of all kinds. They can’t expect to sustain themselves if a cure is discovered and made available to people.
