It's A free Country

After that fateful day of September 11th, 2001, Americans had a since of pride and stood hand in hand together simply because they were America. However, people did not rejoice in being American simply because they were American. They rejoiced because our enemy reminded us of the many things we take for granted such as our life, liberty, our pursuit of happiness, and our rights that protect us from becoming slaves to an oppressive state. A phrase that used to be coined throughout American culture was revitalized at this time: “It's a free country, let me do what I want.” Unfortunately, our society has attacked this phrase on many fronts and it seems that we as a nation have forgotten the single most powerful argument against big government and government intrusion our country has ever seen.

This fantastic phrase can be used to counter many of the Left's arguments (majority of them being based on holding us to the morals we set for ourselves while they reap the rewards of our convictions). One conflict this statement needs to be used is in is countering the sweeping movement in the University System to prevent the singing of our National Anthem because it supports war. Ignoring the fact that the anthem is a symbol of admiration to our country and the other fact that American wars have ended terrible evils such as tyranny, slavery, fascism, and communism, these laws are telling the new adults of America what songs they can sing and where they can sing them. Interesting how liberals who supported Woodstock and the free expression of music no matter the theme want to censor music that supports America (just one of the many hypocritical ideas the liberals posses). Americans, and specifically American students, need to tell these schools and governments “It's a free country, let me do what I want.” Freedom is an idea that all Americans can feel sympathetic towards and with enough voices declaring they will not be oppressed by a limitless government (whether local, state, or federal) then maybe we can stop these awful laws from being conceived in the first place.

Do not be disillusioned, you are likely to still be attacked for your beliefs and most likely called a racist, a terrorist, a greedy capitalist dog, a baby hater, and many other insulting words that are untrue. Do not to fall victim to the left's baiting. Continue holding up your banner of freedom in the face of oppression. No entity, no matter how large, can stop a group of individuals who stand firm in their beliefs and use the Founder's motives as tools as their own. If you are told to do something like paint your house a different color because your neighbors do not approve, simply say “it's a free country, let me do what I want,” and see what their response is. Chances are they will back down because no American (no true American) can be comfortable with taking away an individual's freedom.

And a capitalist dog is way farther up the evolutionary ladder than a socialist sponge.

Welcome to Free Republic.

And yes, that is the moral equivalent to the southern femme "Bless your heart".

"Chances are they will back down because no American (no true American) can be comfortable with taking away an individual's freedom."

Guess you've never lived in a neighborhood with an HOA.

Ya know, just the other day, I was talking with my lady friend about this very subject, and it truly dawned on me that we do NOT live in a free country any more. As I have heard Glenn Beck say, I do not recognize this country any longer. It is no longer the land of the free, nor the home of the brave.

I've seriously considered giving up my American citizenship and seeking a country where the concept of "freedom" still exists. Hard to find, but it's out there somewhere.

This is the most boring retread that I've ever seen. This thread needs more cowbell. We need to recruit more interesting trolls.

Honestly, I have not heard anyone say, “It’s a free country” since the late 80’s.

Unfortunately I have lived in a HOA area and worse of all you can't fight them without wanting to burn away your life savings with fines.

And that is why this next election is so key, not just presidential but legislation as well. We need our country back.

I believe that this is because by then, it became painfully obvious to just about everyone that it isn't.

No nation with as many laws and regulations as ours has cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be termed "free".

I don't recall hearing a single person say that in response to 9/11.
