Meet the ‘Preppers’ — The Americans Stockpiling Food & Water for a Possible Collapse
Prudence not Paranoia ^ | 5/30/12 | rknecht

The world’s a scary place. Wars, famines, corrupt politicians, terrorism, imploding economies — the list goes on. There are plenty of issues worth fearing, which is why a subset of the nation is preparing for what they see as impending calamity.

These individuals, dubbed “preppers,” are stocking up on food, guns, water and other items that they may need should the economy erupt or a massive natural disaster strike. With so many possibilities for problematic occurrences, these individuals want to ensure that they can live beyond any tragically defining moments.

The ultimate control over the population is to control the food.

The Homeland Security brown shirts have already classified preppers as “wierdos” whose food and other prepper stuff can be appropriated by HS commandos if they feel it neccessary.

Today, they say “prepper” and laugh at you.

Tomorrow, they’ll say “hoarder!” and attack you.

(and I pray it doesn’t come to that...)

Best bet: graduated prepping.

That is emphasize prepping on sliding scales, giving emphasis to expected problems over unexpected ones, acute problems vs. chronic ones, natural problems vs. man-made ones, the timetable of the problem; and “budgeting” of the prep, to include costs, perishability of effort and rotation, storage, transport, and in some cases convertability (swap value).

They can try, and I'd almost feel sorry for them...almost.

Which brings up the important lesson -- If you do it don't tell anybody about it. Sooner or later they will figure it out when you are not starving and they are, but at that point physical strength and potent weapons will give you the advantage to overcome the anarchy and the mayhem. Don't worry about dying in the calamity, worry about surviving it.

In other news, people in New Mexico and other western states are hoarding firewood for winter.

Again. Just like since forever.

Making yourself look like an appetizing target might be an easy way to pick up some nearly free extra firearms and ammo. And dog food.

**If you do it don’t tell anybody about it.**

Every now and then, when talking with a friend, or even during a conversation with a stranger (at gun shows for instance), if the subject comes up, I say, “I probably should get a few things..”. If they volunteer their info on their stash, I tell them, “Well, now I know. Who else already knows?”

I grow 'em. I could sell 'em, in theory, if it was not unlawful here in the land of the free.
