Whining Democrat asks, "Can our country govern itself?"

“Until we address the crisis of the failure of our institutions to resolve the significant challenges we face, don’t expect progress on any of them.” Could any statement be more decidedly emblematic of leftist doctrine than the claim that only government and its institutions are equipped to solve the problems of life? Never mind that these are usually problems created by government in its endless quest to solve longstanding problems previously created by government! (1)

Two months ago, Barack Obama’s signature “Affordable Care Act” made an unexpected appearance before the United States Supreme Court. Unexpected, that is, because few if any of the ruling class left which wrote and passed the massive statute believed such a compassionate endeavor could meet with serious criticism.

That the American people overwhelmingly opposed the left’s assault on their liberty was, of course, not considered “serious.”

ObamaCare had a rough three days of oral argument before the Justices, leading pundits throughout the liberal media to proclaim Barack Obama’s noble attempt at autocratic altruism in danger of...

I guess we have to lump this in with the functional equivalent of Pelosi's "We have to pass the legislation before we can see what is in it."

“Can our country govern itself?”

I remember similar statements at the end of the Carter administration. “It’s too complex, etc, etc., etc.”

Reagan showed them how it could be done—by appointing people who knew what they were doing and letting them work within his framework.

....and he was able to take naps in the afternoon.

Others have wondered.

". . . some key [events] exacerbated the national debate, fraying trust, and national cohesion just a little more each time . . . The two-party system that had governed America . . . begin to fall apart . . . interest in politics took the place of all other forms of news-related entertainment . . . politicians were the celebrities . . . [Politics/ideology] was becoming such a habit, the reactions so automatic, that [journalists] taking sides on every news story became inevitable."

.. I just can't avoid thinking about this from for Love & Liberty by Robin Young and it's about 1857 America.

“Until we address the crisis of the failure of our institutions to STOP CAUSING the significant challenges we face, don’t expect progress on any of them.”

Better.

Of course “We” Republicans, Libertarians and Independents are TOTALLY incompetent in regulating and controlling our own affairs.

Without the “Wise” and “Concerned” actions of Liberals (aka - communist/socialist/progressives) we would be totally incapable of performing anything but menial functions and only with their help.

Until we address the crisis of the failure of our institutions to resolve the significant challenges we face

The biggest challenge the country faces is to reverse the sharp turn to the left and communism the country has taken in the last three years...and yes, we will definately begin to solve that problem come November!!

In short, the Democrat Party will not recognize the legitimacy of any Constitutionally created branch of government which is not controlled exclusively by the left.

Or to make it even shorter:GUARENTEED civil war.

The fallacy of petitio principii, or "begging the question", is committed when a proposition that requires proof is assumed without proof. By assuming that life's challenges should or even can be solved by government, "Until we address the crisis of the failure of our institutions to resolve the significant challenges we face, don’t expect progress on any of them" provides a perfect example of this.

My perspective is very nearly the opposite of that held by big government liberals. After several hundred governments worldwide have over quite a few centuries attempted or at least pretended to attempt to solve the problems that come with daily life, I am phenomenally skeptical of the value of any additional government expansion. I am willing to consider the possibility that the benefits of an additional government intrusion into our lives may justify the associated intrusion into our wallets, but I would like to add a sunset clause to every law and regulation added in the past hundred years and all new ones (even those I think might be positive) - a requirement for clear and convincing evidence of that government action's effectiveness within three years or the law/regulation would expire.

“Can our country govern itself?”

.
I do not have the answer, but hiring a Kenyan to prove a point certainly did not improve matters.

Hypocrite weaklings, just as I predicted, covering up their murder of the unborn with a blame on everybody in America except themselves and their disease.

I knew that once the economic reality would tank, they would declare “Everyone is guilty, we must let the UN govern us, both democrates and conservatives” mantra.

They always revert to that because that is what Manchurians cop out their treachery with.

To parse:

“Until we address[1] the crisis[2] of the failure[3] of our institutions[4] to resolve[5] the significant challenges[6] we[7] face[8], don’t expect progress[9] on any of them[10].”

[1] Rewarding our political friends and punishing our political enemies.

[2] Manufactured out of whole cloth to increase our political power and control.

[3] Never our failure. The failure of our opponents.

[4] Inability to politically get what we want, because of those damn stupid voters.

[5] Resolve to our advantage.

[6] Challenges that nobody else will pay for that we want.

[7] We accept any credit but not blame.

[8] When we can deal with them without public review or notice.

[9] Progress==Goals of ‘Progressivism’.

[10] Any that we can’t sneak through by illegitimate means.

I'll accept the contract. I'm not interested in the picayune details — just the big picture. Don't expect me to live in Washington D.C. — too hot. I guarantee I'll do a better job than B.H.O. No policy advisers will be necessary — I'll just continue to read FreeRepublic.

“Until we address the crisis of the failure of our institutions to resolve the significant challenges we face, don’t expect progress on any of them.”

Translation:

“Until we can again obtain super-majorities of our own in both houses of Congress, and hold the White House at the same time, or in any other manner manage to obtain or force capitulation from the GOP, we will not be able to force our solutions on the country.”
