So if they were really contemptuous of the flag, wouldn't they have talked about it sooner?
And wouldn't it be old news by now with them, something they didn't need to talk about?
If they both felt contempt for the flag, would that be something worth discussing at a televised event where the cameras were on them, or something that just went without saying?
You or I might think, "well, they're both leftists so of course they're going to agree about this," but in the real life of couples that isn't the only possibility.
It's possible that if a wife came up with that at an important ceremony, the husband would be irritated, "Do I really need to hear about this again?," rather than appreciative.
I don't know what she might have said, but this isn't the only possible alternative. The last two words clearly look like "a flag" to me.
What came before is less clear. It doesn't look like she's making a "d" for damn, but an "f" or "v" or some other front consonant.
The word spoken just after she moves past the post clearly starts with a 'B'. Given the security glass, there were security concerns, hence her comment to him. 7 words, not 6.
