Russian General Killed in Syria

Arab media is reporting a claim that the Free Syrian Army killed a Russian General and his translator in Syria. According to the rebels, General Vladimir Kojaiv was assisting the Syrian regime. This included what the rebels described as "humanitarian crimes."

Russia is believed to have hundreds of troops and advisors still in Syria. Russia also operates its naval base at Tartus, the only Russian base outside of its borders. Russia also docked weapons for the regime in the port since the uprising began.

Uh-oh... Putin is NOT going to be happy about this, and even if I think he’s a scumbag Commie/Socialist in disguise, the one thing I have to respect him for is doing what is right - in his estimation - for his country... I can’t imagine he’ll let this go without some sort of payback or retaliation.

As far as Russia having people still in Syria - they just sent another ship there, did they not?

Anyway, with Obama sending money and support to the rebels “secretly”, and Russia helping the regime it looks like this is about to blow up... God help us all when it does.

UPDATE: 3:47 EST: Russia denies that the general was killed at all.

A source with Russian law enforcement and security agencies has branded as provocation and invention reports by the Free Syrian Army that a Russian general identified as Vladimir Kodzhiyev had been killed in Syria.

“A man with such a name holding the rank of general has never existed, and therefore reports on his death can only be nonsense and invention,” he said.

Indeed, Putin has too big an ego to let this go unpunished.

His “Red Army” is an underfunded paper tiger due to the graft and corruption from Russian organized crime he empowers with his vainglorious efforts to exhume the Soviet Union.

He knows Syria may be his Afghanistan.

Look for him to stage a massacre there,declare victory and then leave.

It would be nice to see a massive “rebel” assault on the naval ports at Tartus, Latakia and other bases where the Soviets, oops, I mean the Russians are based and ready to defend.

Voice of Russia denies the report also. No General with that name. Perhaps it was a mercenary or someone lower in ranking.

Would not recommend an attack on the Russian Naval base. They really do not care about the base infrastructure and know full well that it is a sitting duck that can blow up real good. They have a small flotilla of ships with a few thousand marines performing war games out in the open sea. Just off the coast of Syria. Much safer with them out there. You do not want that bunch landing on your shores.

Well now this is getting interesting. The Jerusalem Post is reporting that the Russian General was working as a consultant for the Syrian Army and was employed by them. Perhaps a former Russian military person the Syrians just gave the rank of General. Also the Iranians admit that some of their Revolutionary Guard that were captured are actually retired former members. Working on the side apparently. Who the heck does NOT have mercs in Syria ? What a minefield.

That's my point. I DO want the Russkies landing in port and blowing the _____ out of the very infrastructure that they helped the Syrian Navy build. I DO want to see massive exchanges of fire between “rebels” and the Soviet, oops, I mean Russkie Navy. I DO want to see the “rebels” sink” some Soviet, oops, I mean Russian naval vessels. They are, after all, allies!!! Goody, goody!

And the Russians offshore, want to invade. Just looking for an excuse. There are roughly 100,000 Russian citizens living in Syria. That is what the Russian marines are their to protect. Port infrastructure can be rebuilt. Russians have stated the port would still be functional to them, if all the support buildings were blown up. They would just anchor offshore. Bringing the Iranians in at full strength or bringing the Russians in at full strength, would be suicide for this rag tag group of rebellious insurgents.

So, in effect, what you're saying is that these “rebels” do not have a chance in hell of bringing Assad down at all? The Iranians, Hizbollah and the myriad of other groups seem to be devouring the rebels. If Aleppo falls back into Assad’s hands, that's it, the gig is over? The rest will flee to neighboring Turkey and Jordan?

The current state of affairs can be summarized in the article linked below. Basically, the Obama/Hillary plan is a failure. But we have come to expect that from them. Syria should have been handled in the beginning just like Iraq was handled. Unfortunately our progressive leadership certainly could not replicate the GWB plan, because they all claimed it was a failure. Yes, the back end of the GWB plan was complicated by the unexpected insurgency. The front end however, was correct and worked like a charm. With Obama/Hillary, their front end is so bad that their back end could only end up looking like the abyss. We should either stand down or bring the A-game. The latter is what the RINO's plan on doing. And good luck with that. Syria is Iraq with all of Saddam's WMD's still intact.

Syria can be viewed in two ways:

1) Keep Assad in power - he's a known quantity and somehow...stable.
2) Oust Assad and take whatever comes next - Islamic Jihad operating on the Turkish, Iraqi, Jordanian and Israeli borders.

I can just see it now. Israel will be asked to perform some sort of “goodwill gesture” to the Jihadis in the Golan Heights as they were forced to do time and time again with the PLO (now called the Palestinian Authority - PA). Good old Mad Albright was behind that mess and Shrillary Clintoon is furthering her disasterous policies began in the early 1990’s.

Oh woe is us if this dynamic duo are reelected. A word of advice to the Israelis: Dig your bomb shelters even deeper if BHO is reelected.
