new survey of 900 registered Catholic voters holds devastating news for Obama that cannot be overstated. It says 54% of Catholic voter support he had in 2008 has dwindled to just 27% (MoE +/- 3 points); a historic low level no one running for president can survive.
This 27% Catholic support for Obama will have important consequences for Obama and his Party in several states with sizable Catholic populations.
While some might attempt to belittle this gap by pointing to the fact that only about 24% are adherent Catholics that argument is defeated by the fact that the survey found that 73% of respondents said they cannot support Obama because of his mandate forcing Catholic institutions to commit abortions and distribute contraceptive devices to their employees.
It says that by 3 to 1 self-identified Catholics are angry and insulted by Obamas attempts to dictate their religious practice.
Numbers this large indicate that whether these voters do or dont attend Mass on a regular basis has nothing to do with these feelings of being insulted and threatened by this president.
By state here are the percentages of Catholics and the Electoral Vote value of each one.
Pennsylvania (53%) 20 EVs,
New Jersey (39%) 14 EVs New Hampshire (35%) 4 EVs, Wisconsin (29%)10 EVs
Florida (26%) 29 EVs New Mexico (26%) 5 EVs, Minnesota (25%) 10EVs Colorado (24%) 9 EVs,
Ohio (24%) 18 EVs, Iowa (23%) 6 EVs, Michigan (23%) 16 EVs, Missouri (20%) 10 EVs, Nevada (24%) 6 EVs,
When states that are tied or Romney is winning are separated out just Minnesota remains as a tough nut to crack among states that have at least a 20% Catholic populations. Holding Minnesotas 10 and New Jersey's 14 EVs add[s] up to 133

I was pretty sure that merely applying the national 54% to 27% drop in Catholic vote to specific states, like NJ, would yield erroneous results. It’s obvious, as you pointed out so well, that the numbers must be applied on a state-by-state basis to be meaningful.
Nevertheless, losing half of a gigantic religious voting bloc is obviously a big effing deal, to paraphrase Joe Biden, and, if true, should bring home enough of the swing states to insure a Romney win. I think I’ll have to wait a little longer for NJ to swing red.
Eeeeek, 27% of Catholics still support an anti-Christian president?
What do these idiots think of next?
They're no different than Protestants, Jews, and agnostics.
They're 99ers, EBT/TANFers, Section 8ers, and other ways to receive govt largesse.
I think I know who needs to be baptized ...
As for the DNC ... I think he needs to do an exorcism.
There is a significant population of folks who are technically Catholic, in the sense that a priest baptized them when they were babies, but who do not now and have not for a long time practiced their faith nor do they form their consciences according to the Gospel.
If you ask them their religion, they'll tell you "Catholic". That's about the extent of it. They don't believe it and they don't practice it.
There is a similar phenomenon among Jews.
i still want to see the obamanation eat a BLT or an ham sandwich in public.
want to see if he is a Christian, as he purports to be.
blessings, bobo
“I think Ill have to wait a little longer for NJ to swing red.”
Obama actually lost NJ among Catholics in 2008 by 55%. Like you said, still can’t imagine NJ going red, the last time was 20 years ago. The poll was done by American Life League, could be a case of Catholics saying the right thing, 27% support seems kind of out there. But even if it is a really only a fraction of that, like a quarter, that would be huge. There were ties or near ties in the Catholic vote in Az,Indiana, NH and the big one, Fla.
Freegards
May be why Romney is down only 7 in New Jersey and doing well in Wisconsin.
