A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit invalidated the Texas voter ID law on the grounds that it would have a disparate effect on minorities.
Writing for the Court, David Tatel pointed out that the photo requirement is a heavier burden for both Blacks and Hispanics. Blacks are disproportionately in trouble with law enforcement authorities. Forcing them to identify themselves at the polls could increase the chances they could be arrested on outstanding warrants. Many Hispanics, on the other hand, are in the country illegally. Forcing them to identify themselves exposes them to the risk of deportation. It is obvious that the Texas voter ID burdens inflicted on these minority groups exceed those imposed on whites. The law is unequal in its effects and, therefore, invalid.
Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott said he will appeal the panels ruling calling it wrong on the law and maintained that it improperly prevents Texas from implementing the same type of ballot integrity safeguards that are employed by Georgia and Indiana and were upheld by the US Supreme Court.
Tatel rejected Abbotts argument saying that the desire for so-called ballot integrity cannot be permitted to override the human rights of protected minorities. Democracy rests on the consent of the governed. Inasmuch as wanted criminals and undocumented persons are, in fact, governed, they have a right not to be intimidated from taking part in the process of choosing their rulers.

“protected minorities”
Geez, how I hate that term.
Where & Who are these people in this day & age without a photo-id?
He's talking like this is a bad thing. Have the courts gone mad??
Hmmmm...
CONVICTED FELONS lose their voting rights, therefore, so they must help insure they do not get arrested, regardless of heinousness of the crimes.
ILLEGAL ALIENS can't LEGALLY vote, anyways...
So, these brilliant minds deny the law to save the perves and ponchos!
Had me... until I checked the source. That was a close one...
Calm your blood pressure... check the source.
“A disparate effect on minorities.”
Yeah, ILLEGAL aliens.
It’s tough to envision a Republican win when both the media AND the judiciary are in Obama’s pocket.
oh well more votes for George P and the Republican party to chase after.....
If those who are supposed to enforce the law become themselves lawless, what recourse does a free people have? Simple, the people should insist that these officials be impeached. Who in Congress will have the ‘nads to do their Constitutional duty? Crickets.....
So ... Is this the "news" or the "satire"?
I’m not really sure what the purpose or benefit there is to write satire or semi-satire articles and then post to FR, when the reality of these kinds of decisions & logic by the mentally deranged liberal courts is all too prevalent. It gets lots of people distraught, and sometimes I think it creates an impetus for liberal activist judges to make rulings exactly like this.
I REALLY need to start looking at the byline 1st! Another masterpiece.
This article may be labeled as “satire”, but all the arguments against voters id laws bear a remarkable resemblance to any of the lampooning intended. I guess that’s why people get upset by it because, as absurd as it is, it is more fact than fiction.
In order for this country to survive we have to find a way to impeach judges who have been appointed or elected for life terms.
Tenure just doesn’t work, whether it be a teacher or a judge...
I didn’t see that...that helps.
Has anyone else out there heard about Obozo volunteers going to food bank lines to register voters? Here in Indy, there’s a story going around that the workers are saying the “free food” was provided by Obozo and that there is no need to show need. The man has no class at all...
Even if you can get past the initial lunacy of the reasoning, the premise is a lie. Simply put, there is no reason to expect a poll worker to know who is or isn’t a wanted criminal. As for preventing illegals from committing a felony, a lot of laws do that, or attempt to do that, such as mandatory insurance laws, and having to have proof of insurance, or laws requiring a driver’s license, or laws against driving intoxicated.
Oh, you got me. I didn’t look at the source. Good one.
I am proud to say that it is taking only a few sentences now to realize that you are pulling our chains.
Keep up the good work, I like your humor.
“Might have outstanding warrants..” indeed!
Criminals and illegals should not be voting anyway, judge. If this is an elected judge, he should be defeated next opportunity. If he is appointed. he should be impeached.
