Buoyed by polls showing him pulling away from his opponent, President Barack Obama says its time for all patriotic Americans to rally for the common good by giving me four more years.
The President acknowledged that things may be tough for many of you, but whatever setbacks you may have experienced are just bumps in the road compared to the existential threat to this country that is posed by the risk that I might not prevail on election day.
The President declared that the latest report showing extraordinary weakness in the nations economy reemphasizes the importance of continuing the work Ive done since January 2009. Just as voters reelected FDR in the midst of worse economic news in 1936 than we face today, Im asking for the same vote of confidence.
MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews said he found President Obamas position persuasive and asserted that failure to reelect him could only be due to racism, inasmuch as Roosevelt was reelected with an unemployment rate double the 8% we have today. How could we justify holding our first African-American President to a higher standard than a rich white man? We cant unless we truly are racists.
In the 1936 presidential election, Franklin Roosevelt crushed his Republican opponent Alf Landon, winning over 60% of the popular vote and the electoral votes of every state but Maine and Vermont. Obama Campaign adviser David Axelrod said he doubted that Obama would be able to duplicate the feat due to GOP slander, vote fraud and the barely concealed racism of so many Republican voters.

The Chris Matthews line is plausible. (chuckle) — good one.
the difference is this..... while FDR did a number of things that hurt the economy and delayed the recovery, there was no precedent then so all the policy debates were pretty much theoretical. Today, we have the 1930’s experience, factual record... but the Occupancy in WashDC is, despite this, hurting the economy and delaying the recovery nonetheless.
Repeated or consistent actions in the face of known facts... must be intentional.
He may be correct. FDR’s handling of the economy worsened and lengthened the Depression.
This to TOO CLOSE to WHAT HE ACTUALLY SAID, to be satire, John. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
This might be the first time i agreed with b.o.
FDR turned a bad situation into a catastrophe.
17 years after the federal government “helped” the economy everything was ok.
If b.o. gets re-elected is suspect we will be ok in 17 years.
Satire aside.... is’nt it sad that the tone of the keynote address at the DNC convention was “nobody could have fixed this?”
Let’s see -
Passed a budget - nope
Reined in regulation - nope
Keystone Pipeline - nope
Encourage new energy and current energy (coal) - nope
Don’t foist a huge new uncertainty on business (ACA) - nope
Preserve the rule of law and fairness in business - nope
Attempt to balance the budget - nope
Prevent increase in entitlements when revenue drops - nope
Preserve our credit rating - nope
Encourage fair trade - nope
Detail a serious plan to fix the economy - nope
I am sure I am forgetting some major ones, but talk with any businessman and you will get some of the above. This is a very depressing and uncertain economy for business and workers alike. Obama has been the most inept President of my lifetime and it’s not even close. He has no plan, no clue, and no desire to rise above his ideology to better America. He is an epic failure. However, even more troubling is that the American people can’t recognize this and act accordingly.
We are really in trouble and the fact that so many Americans are prepared to double down on the current path with Obama scares the hell out of me.
Obama is correct. Both his and FDR’s economic plans SU*K!
lol
Topping that 14 year depression is a goal I guess
Yeah John. Good one again.
