Modern wheat a "perfect, chronic poison," doctor says
CBS News ^ | September 3, 2012

Modern wheat is a "perfect, chronic poison," according to Dr. William Davis, a cardiologist who has published a book all about the world's most popular grain.

Davis said that the wheat we eat these days isn't the wheat your grandma had: "It's an 18-inch tall plant created by genetic research in the '60s and '70s," he said on "CBS This Morning." "This thing has many new features nobody told you about, such as there's a new protein in this thing called gliadin. It's not gluten. I'm not addressing people with gluten sensitivities and celiac disease. I'm talking about everybody else because everybody else is susceptible to the gliadin protein that is an opiate. This thing binds into the opiate receptors in your brain and in most people stimulates appetite, such that we consume 440 more calories per day, 365 days per year."

Asked if the farming industry could change back to the grain it formerly produced, Davis said it could, but it would not be economically feasible because it yields less per acre. However, Davis said a movement has begun with people turning away from wheat - and dropping substantial weight.

"If three people lost eight pounds, big deal," he said. "But we're seeing hundreds of thousands of people losing 30, 80, 150 pounds. Diabetics become no longer diabetic; people with arthritis having dramatic relief. People losing leg swelling, acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, depression, and on and on every day."

To avoid these wheat-oriented products, Davis suggests eating "real food," such as avocados, olives, olive oil, meats, and vegetables....

The politicization of food is a really sore subject for me, mainly because as somebody with a food allergy I’m more acutely aware of it.

Too many people push these fads, and use people who have real medical issues like Celiac Disease and Food Allergies as props for Nanny state solutions.

I remember when I was in grade school I was the first case student with a Peanut allergy, and there was serious issues that had to be addressed. However, a few years down the road a lot of other kids “had” peanut allergies, and did much to muddle things as to what food allergies/intolerances really are and is ultimately counterproductive.

What kind of wheat do you buy? How long can you store it in its whole state? How do you mill it?

I want to make some.

People discussing a doctors study is not the same as govt mandates on diets.

Did you also get rid of potatoes in your diet? I thinking of a nice 12 oz rib eye with a salad and skipping the potato. Does that sound right?

Well my first guess is it didn’t come from people on FR.

So your solution is to ban free speech on food topics, brilliant.

Anybody who believes “modern wheat” is going to poison them IS a gullible fool. Ditto to anyone who thinks that Monsanto corn is a tool of a giant conspiracy to experiment on the human race.

My daughter has done research on this. They are right; the wheat and grains we eat today are not the same our grandparents ate and it IS bad for us.

Who said anything about the government getting involved? There was not one word in this video about the government having a single thing to do with this concept. On the contrary, the government provided us with the wonderful “food pyramid” that helped everybody gain weight and develop diabetes. This is just the opposite. Here’s the program: you stop eating crap. It’s entirely your own choice. No government involved.

its upsetting to say the least to finish reading a preppers thread about putting wheat, barley, rice, etc etc away for long term storage, and then coming here and reading that it’s all bad for you...:(
