The American Media’s Last Chance for Redemption
Illionois Review ^ | October 6, 2012 | By John F. Di Leo

Posted on 10/07/2012 12:21:28 AM PDT by zencycler

Nobody’s perfect. Everyone makes mistakes.

Even when those mistakes are conscious, there is always a chance to reverse them, if one catches oneself in time.

Take the wrong route; don’t be afraid to do a U-turn and correct the error. Wear the wrong necktie, dress right the next time to correct the impression. Make the wrong choice; don’t be afraid to make the right one next time.

The American news media, known collectively as “the MainStream Media” or MSM for decades now, has made a collective choice: most have been part and parcel of the Democratic Party, either admittedly or not, for generations.

They have acted as a cheering section for Democrat presidents and partisans, not only when it was contrary to their nation’s interest, but even when it was contrary to their own self-interest. Television ratings, newspaper circulation, and radio ad sales have long proven that blatant left-wing bias is the path to ruin of all but the niche outlets, but that hasn’t stopped them. They remain leftist; perhaps their consistency, at least, can be considered admirable.

But there have been moments when the leftist MSM, and even the Democratic Party itself, have stood up and acknowledged an error. It doesn’t happen often, but once in a while, lightning strikes....

....The veil was dropped on Wednesday, October 3, 2012, A.D., and everything changed. Without the press to snip only the best soundbites to share with their readers....

....By the end of the debate, Barack Obama looked like he was wishing he were back home in Indonesia, where at least he could have been eating dog instead of crow....

I hope he was kidding. They are so far beyond redemption it’s not even something to discuss except in jest.

I wish there was a way we could collectively punish the MSM for their wreck less ‘Obama above truth’ mentality.

Good article. Thanks for posting.

Zero is still the dream of the liberal leftists. It will be hard to give him up. But if the next debate is a similar fiasco for 0, then I’m sure the floodgates will open.

“beyond redemption”

Those were the two words that popped into my mind.

I believe in forgiveness, but I, also, believe in acts that justify forgiveness.

I don’t believe we will see that in our lifetime.

I’m comforted in that the American people saw what we did last Wednesday night.

Phooey on any "redemption". The depths of depravity they willingly gave themselves over to precludes any redeeming - the crime is too grievous. I would prefer atonement, a price to be paid for their offenses against us.

Redemption? Really?

They can't un-sell your soul to the devil just like you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube.

We didn't start this war they've waged on Republicans and conservatism, they did, and you know what? They're messing with the wrong people.

There are 2 distinct cultures in America now and most of the media belongs to urban culture centers. They are intent on imposing their will, their way, on the entire nation.

It was good and worth reading, if not just for the historical perspective of past administrations.

Mainstream media bias is a compilation of several traits: liberal schooling, congregation of its members in elitist circles devoid of any alternate views, a general disdain for the ‘normal’ American, and a pompous attitude of their worth to society.

For me, their shame began with purposefully hiding (not reporting) FDR's infirmity, on up through covering up JFK's abject womanizing (and also back problems), incessantly hounding RMN, and increasing their ‘liberal drug habit’ right up to where they tried to explain away a President of the United States getting a bl@w job from an intern while he was speaking on the phone to a US Congressman about the nation's business.......

These media people are utterly despicable and devoid of honor and shame. Their understanding of real America is virtually nonexistent. Even when they are faced with a white-guilt, black vote racism, affirmative action President with absolutely no applicable qualifications for the job, the double-triple down on their coverup - the altitude, he's too busy to prepare, et al.

These people are not just the network boobs you see and here or read about; they are infested in our society like illegal Mexicans - they seem to work hand in hand on the destruction of normal America. They are on your radio drive time gleefully parroting the administrations lies about virtually everything, the economy and jobs. They write the catchy leads on every newspaper in the country, at best giving grudging acknowledgment of a true fact, but having to add their two cents contradicting.... It isn't a case of 'shame' anymore - it is one of being traitors to America

I looked at the stats from earlier in the week...CNN’s top four shows are all behind the Comedy Central’s dynamic duo of Stewart and Colbert. No one is watching Piers Morgan. The Anderson Cooper numbers are fairly low. Across the spectrum...most of the media’s organizations are doing lousy. Pay scale wise, the bosses will eventually come around and add up the revenue. Some folks will take pay cuts.

I agree. Certain members of the media need to be punished.

One would think they’d look at revenue, but I think they’ll just go back to a “revenue loss” attitude for their news operations - they did it for decades, up until CNN showed them they could make money, too (in the early Baghdad raid days).....

The worker bees in the news operations are so ideologically bound to their demented loyalty to Obama and Demcrats, they will never give up. They may take pay cuts, but you’ll see them getting perks from Obama et al to compensate...

Won’t happen. Obama is the realization of the dream of “journalists” for decades to finally get a leftist academic in the White House. And he’s a “minority” to boot. Romney obviously won on style not substance in the first debate. And he cheated. He had notes printed on his hanky. The lights were in Obama’s eyes. The altitude was too high. Jim Lehrer is a filthy racist. There was a flood somewhere. An earthquake. Tornado. Locusts. It wasn’t Obama’s fault he lost. In fact, we the lib media, are wondering if Romney really won. That’s what’s going to happen. The lib media will never apologize and cover the scene fairly. Never.

If even the MSM switched sides completely it doesn't matter at this point! These scumbags have lost all credibility! They chose their path.

Let them be fair and balanced, producing credible journalism not because people would find favor, but because it's the right thing to do.

For one night and one night only. They're back to shielding his behind bigtime.

I know from personal experience that producers, anchors, reporters and assignment editors in newsrooms are primarily liberal. It's something about "journalism" that draws them into their careers. I think it's the "public service" aspect. The only balance that exists is generally the photographers/videographers and perhaps a weather or sports person but generally they keep their views to themselves.

The media has a confirmation bias. I find this evident when I am in the DC Metro area and discussing politics with the local fauna.

They are right PERIOD. Any facts to the contrary are “wrong” and one is told that one does not understand or have the “correct” facts, or that one is certainly not privy to the “real” facts of the matters.

The Beltway mentality, and I include the power center of NY, is one of intractable confirmation bias. It is inculcated in college and remains forever more.

The "crack whore media" is so far gone, that they are incapable of anything like redemption. George Stephanopolous, David Gregory, Chris Matthews?

Just like with crack, their DNA has been irreparably damaged by their addiction.

They are irrelavent to the political discourse.
