Here’s my theory of what happened in the situation room in the White House. Obozo gets the call there is an attack and stumbled into the situation room. He watches for 5 minutes and says, “NO!” to sending in reinforcements and then says, “F- this, I’m going back to bed as I’m heading off to Vegas in the morning baby!”

Nixon's cover-up was initiated to protect his staff who acted on their own. Nixon's poll numbers had him way ahead of McGovern. IIRC Nixon won 49 states in 1972. Why would he order action like that against the loser?
