Why Barack H. Obama will be the last President of the “United” States

By John Gonzales

Consider the current rifts in our American society. After four years of this administration’s divisive rhetoric and policies, we have been divided - then subdivided - into a disparate consortium of “voting” blocks. We are a society that identifies its members by political party, race, income brackets, social and religious affiliations, then again: pro-life, pro-choice, the 47%, the dependant class, the wealthy, millionaires (defined by this administration as anyone making more than $250,000 annually), social conservatives clinging to their guns and bibles, liberals, Christians, atheists, tax payers, welfare takers, wall street, main street, gay, straight, illegal immigrants (sorry, undocumented workers), racists, constitutionalists, statists, and the list goes on.

Four years, during which our country has become more segregated than it has been since the great Civil War, with the central issues being slavery and individual states’ rights. The divisions ran so deep and wide, and the positions were so passionately held, that it pitted father against son, and brother against brother. So divided were we that we took up arms against each other. That was then, this is now.

Four years of entrenching the current polarization to the point of institutionalizing it in our politics, in our courts and worst of all in our schools. This generation of children, our future, will have been subjected to eight years learning and studying this new normal. George Orwell said, in his prophetic book 1984, “He who controls the past controls the future. He who controls the present controls the past.” Ask yourself who has control of this present, because their “narrative” will shape (and reshape when needed) the past for our children and therefore they will define our future.

Now fast forward to 2016, after four more years of the same shaping. How much more divided can we become? I earnestly believe that we can become much more separated from each other as Americans. And the more we separate from each other and allow ourselves to be categorized and identified in this manner, the deeper the trench, the wider the chasm, and the longer it will take to repair and recover the “unity” of being identified as Americans.

Consider that in just the last 60 days over 675,000 Americans in 50 states have signed petitions asking for state secession from our union. Of course, these (mostly online) petitions have no formal legal bearing because our constitution does not identify a process for secession, and the very act was deemed illegal as an outcome of our US Civil War. Coupled with the fact that these petitions have currently been filed by individual citizens, not state government officials, it makes the reality of secession highly improbable, for now.

However, if we apply the universal formula for dissatisfaction: that for every one person who takes the time and makes the effort to complain about a particular business, there are 10 other consumers who feel the same but do not express it. And by placing the US in the role of the business, and its citizens cast in the role of its customers, we can extrapolate that no fewer than 6,500,000 of our fellow citizens feel the same way, a bit more substantial. And although this still only constitutes 2% of the total US population, remember that those signers of these secession petitions are only those signing in the last 60 days or less. After another four years, I wonder.

Now, here comes the “catch” in my missive. I believe that change is imminent. Profound change is racing towards our country and our world like a tsunami. One that will bring difficulties that will dwarf any this present generation has seen. As Americans, we are facing the same national turmoil we witness today in Greece, Spain, Egypt, Libya, Iran, France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, etc. Turmoil that enflames a divided citizenry, ignited because of financial chaos, politics or religion.

With four more years of this widening separation, and the clock ticking faster than the last 10 seconds of an episode of “Chopped,” I fear that restoring our “United” States may take longer than we have.

On June 17, 1858, Abraham Lincoln famously told the US "A house divided cannot stand." But today our country is exactly that - divided.

Remember, the highest value targets are politicians, lawyers, leftists, and anyone still stupid enough to have an Obama sticker on their bumper.

I know you covered it with the leftists, but lets be specific and include the MSM too.

No, the last was James Buchanan.

Lincoln was not inaugurated until March of 1861. South Carolina seceded December 20, 1860 . . . Mississippi January 9, 1861 . . . Florida January 10, 1861 . . . Alabama January 11, 1861 . . . Georgia January 19, 1861 . . . Louisiana January 26, 1861 . . . Texas February 1, 1861 . . . And thus, even before Lincoln took office, these United States came to an end. And you thought they still existed? How silly of you.

Ninety nine percent of the public loves this country despite all of its faults. And, that's just not going to change. We've been through too much together.

I agree with you, except that the political left is no longer part of the 'we' that you're talking about. The glue that once held both sides of the political divide together, has now been dissolved. The hard-core left has been working ceaselessly since FDR's time to unbind that glue, and now they've finally succeeded.

The 'we' who still resonate to your passionate words, are all standing on one side of the aisle now, wondering what's to become of our beloved country and its traditions, culture, etc. These are thoughts and concerns which are now disturbing the core of most people who truly love America, and few have any good answers as to how we can restore it.

Frankly, after this election, I'm not so sure it's even possible. The left will now take this opportunity to make their domination over our government permanent. You can bank on it.

And if that is to be the case, then it's time for the red states to pull out of the union. It's either that, or succumb to a darkness we can scarcely imagine.

After LBJ's landslide in 1964, many people thought that we had become a one-party country. Then, four years later, Nixon won. After Nixon's landslide in 1972, people were trying to figure out how the extreme left wing Democrats could win again. Two years later, Nixon resigned and four years later, in 1976, Carter beat Ford. Four years after that, Reagan stomped Carter.

There has not even been any landslides lately. Obama didn't win by much. In view of our history, how can anyone seriously think that the GOP is dead? If history is any guide, the GOP will probably win again in 2016. The "darkness" you predict is just not consistent with the ebbs and flows of our history.

Personally, I think that if Romney had won, the current leftward trend would have been more pronounced than it will be with Obama. Romney would have implemented the same liberal policies with the support of the Democrats and a whole lot of RINO's. But, those socialist policies, whether they come from Obama or Romney, will in the long run fail and things will be moving back in the other direction.

In the long run, I am optimistic. I guess I agree with what you've written on your home page:

"I believe strongly in the doctrine of “American Exceptionalism”. No other country in the history of the world has given so much to the people of earth. Because of this, I remain convinced that no matter the threats we face as a people, whether foreign or domestic, that we will eventually triumph over them."

There doesn't exist a state or even a county in which a significant percentage of the population would ever consider turning against the USA.

. . . yet.

Well, I am just now getting to this thread. I often wish the coastal regions would secede. I have watched while the left takes step after step toward their socialist nightmare.

A deal is struck. They get their half a loaf. It a little while they come back for more get half of the rest of the loaf which leaves only 25% and so forth. I am sick of the majority having to live like the minority wants. Can't even have a nativity scene. Pretty soon veterans won't be allowed to have crosses on their graves.

Still, no matter what, we know that Socialism, Communism, and Fascism will fail. That is the history of the world. Unless, God decides to intervene, and save the USA we'll no doubt go through the same sequence that other nations have.

Here's the sequence mentioned by Alexander Tyler: From bondage to spiritual faith, from spiritual faith to great courage, from courage to abundance, from abundance to complacency, from complacency to apathy, from apathy to dependence, from dependence back again into bondage.

Prepare not just your food, shelter, security, etc, but also prepare spiritually and especially prepare your children and grandchildren to have great faith. They will be the faithful of great courage that will set the stage to lead our descendants out of bondage.

We may not live to see it, but I have no doubt that should this be the demise of the USA, that we will rise again.

Friend, there has always been an ebb and flow, or what some would call a pendulum effect, between the two major parties in America, but I just don't believe we're looking at the same country anymore. Sure, politics between the Democrats and Republicans has always been hot and divisive, but I don't think we've seen anything like what we're seeing now, in modern times.

The left has simply become more radicalized than at any time in our past. Some would say that the right has done likewise, but I see it as the right becoming more firmly resolved to restore the founding fundamentals of the nation. That probably looks pretty radical from the other side, hence the charge.

I suppose a non-partisan observer (if there were such an animal) would look at us and conclude that we've both moved further away from the center, and have adopted more 'extreme' and hardened positions. The cultural/political divide has grown. Of that, there is no doubt.

So, what about that pendulum? By all rights, it should have swung hard right in the last election, but it didn't. In my view, it was stopped from doing so by two things: 1) voter fraud on a massive scale by the Democrats, and 2) a conservative base who were demoralized by the lack of a candidate they could believe in.

Having watched the radical leftist Obama regime over the last four years, I'm convinced that they will use every lever of force and control within their grasp, to ensure that fair elections at the national level are fixed in their favor from this day forward. They will use the power of every office and agency of the federal leviathan to weaken our fundamental way of life, and attempt to take so much freedom from states, groups, and individuals, that their permanent control of the nation's power centers is assured.

They intend to change and rig the system so radically, that the pendulum will never swing back in our favor.

I still believe that the good people of America will prevail, but I'm not so sure anymore whether the liberals will be allowed to come along for the ride. More and more, I think we're going to see the country split apart for a second time.

A biblical quote that has more meaning than what shows on the surface - Jesus and the Apostles were accused of being Satanic when expelling demons and Jesus pointed out that Good could not stand if it was an arm of Evil. It is why there is supposed to be only one unforgivable sin - blaspheming the Holy Spirit.

You make many good points, but I remember studying the Civil War (or, if you prefer, War of Northern Aggression) and reading the secession documents (declarations of secession). The proponents primarily relied upon an issue (slavery) which could not really be compromised - either you have slavery or you don't, you can't have slavery just on Tuesdays and Thursdays etc.) Compromises could be made on the geography of slavery, but at any particular place, slavery was either legal or illegal. So, folks had to be either for or against slavery and that permitted folks to create a clear line in the sand.

I don't see that kind of issue in the US today. There isn't a disagreement over whether or not there should be government (yes or no), there is just a disagreement as to how much government we should have and what should be its functions. There are about 300 million opinions about that, not just two like slavery. Same with taxes. There isn't a disagreement over whether or not there should be taxes, (yes or no), there is just a disagreement as to how much people should be taxed and who among us should pay which ones. Again, there may be as many opinions as people on such issues.

Even the social issues get compromised. We hear folks describe themselves as "pro-life, with exceptions for [this, that or the other]." Even illegal immigration is losing its yes or no quality and the Republican nominee promised "comprehensive immigration reform" which most folks assume will include some form of amnesty for those who have flagrantly violated our laws. Which political party will stand up to prevent "comprehensive immigration reform" next year? Compromise, compromise, compromise.

So, I'm wondering, what very large "yes or no," "for or against," uncompromisable issue will force Americans to split down the middle and seriously consider either separation or revolution?

Good thought provoking respinse. Perhaps significant entitlement reform, suspension of the constitution or provisions contained in it (religious freedoms, gun rights, free press, etc.), Hyperinflation...

I’m not sure it would take single issue, the right combination might do it.
