This year those of us who cherish the phrase “Merry Christmas” have started to say “Merry Christ-mas” to reinsert the name Christ into the greeting. Here’s a reminder of how we started to lose “Merry Christmas” 40 years ago.

On the day before Christmas in 1971 the New York Times ran an article about a new “holiday” called Kwanzaa that was invented by an America hating Black separatist named Ron Everett. Everett now uses the made up “African” name Maulana Ron Karenga to show the world he wants nothing to do with White America.

That Mr. Karenga was in a California prison doing a one to ten year stretch for illegally imprisoning and maiming two Black women he thought were plotting to kill him meant nothing to the Times. They didn’t want to talk about how their new hero had been certified as a paranoid schizophrenic by a court, so they didn’t.

Karenga called his new “holiday” Kwanzaa, a Swahili phrase meaning...

The phrase is FAR from dead. I offered a million Merry Christmas’s this season and got that many and more returned. If anyone ever offers me a “Happy Holidays’ I always respond with Merry Christmas and usually geta smile and a Merry Christmas from them too.

Who killed the phrase "Merry Christmas?"

Funny, I heard myself saying "Merry Christmas" a whole bunch of time the last few weeks. Merry Christmas is very much alive in me because Jesus is alive and reigns in me.

Remember about 25-30 years ago when Blacks were told to wish everyone a “Black” Christmas?

People still do. It’s the advertiser’s that don’t anymore. I believe that if one did, the rest would follow because people would patronize that store or company. It’s the media. People get so PO’d when they hear that “Happy Holidays” thing. As for Kwanza, only liberal white folks and the president acknowledge it.

Can someone remind me how Al Sharpton got to become a Reverend/Minister?

What Seminary did he graduate from again, and what degree did he receive???

Photobucket Ron Karenga (aka Dr. Maulana Karenga) stands outside courtroom in Los Angeles (Calif.) May 29, 1971. Typewritten caption on the negative's paper wrapper reads: Ron Karenga enters courtroom where he was found guilty on four counts. On September 17, 1971, Karenga was sentenced to one to ten years in prison on counts of felonious assault and false imprisonment. The charges stemmed from a May 9, 1970 incident in which Karenga and two others tortured two women who Karenga believed had tried to kill him by placing “crystals” in his food and water. A year later the Los Angeles Times described the events: “Deborah Jones, who once was given the title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis' mouth and placed against Miss Davis' face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vice. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said.”
