*** PING ***
Any whod like to be added to the RR ping-list, pls FReepmail me at Reaganite Republican -TIA!
Excuse the off-topicry, but can anyone tell me the name of the ship that supposedly transited the Suez Canal on 2/17/1867?
Reaganite Republican has a sidebar saying: “1867 1st ship passes through Suez Canal.”
A search via google has other sites claiming it happened on Feb. 17, but I know for certain the canal wasn’t cleared until 1869. The Louise-et-Marie, in 1869, was the first to transit the canal before the official opening — far as I know.
Anyone with better information, please provide.
For example, the picture that is published here in the article, which if you search on the text actually shows up in Google as an image on free republic (hence making it look like it is a free republic image), can be searched using Google's image search function.
If you do, you find the picture in dozens of places, under the heading "if you are going to be dumb".
This is what that page looks like:
As an example (but not the original):

They look a lot like the cartoons referenced in this article, except they tell you who actually created them.
