Matthew Lee Chegwidden feeds a deer herd at his house in Divide, Colorado. The deer are so friendly, they come up to the man like he’s some sort or Santa Claus or Mr. Snow White. Amazing! read mroe at albasun.com ///

...they... become so numerous and unafraid, that they now qualify as vermin.

I have wasted $ thousands on shrubs and flowers. They will eat just about anything, even things the nurseries say they won't eat, if they get hungry enough. They run out between parked cars, rush your headlights, clatter down the sidewalks and up the front and back doorsteps in our townhome circle, munching all the way. Their satanic cloven hooves trample the lawn throughout the winter and especially when the ground turns muddy in the spring, depositing weed seeds from elsewhere and destroying the grass on their favorite beaten paths between the end-of-group homes.

Then there are those piles of poo, like little pyramids of miniature cannonballs.

Rats with antlers, I call 'em.

“All animals - wild or domestic - are welfare queens. Makes sense, doesn’t it? We, too, are part of the animal kingdom.

Yes, you are right. But Rhinos, Hippopotamus, grizzly bears and a few others have a way of making their moods known.

“He better keep doing it now in perpetuity. They’ll depend on that food.”

THAT’s the problem. To run a shelter or rescue operation is one thing. To get animals that are living in the wild to become dependent on human feeders is not good for a number of reasons.

The extra feeding the herd is getting could possibly provide for building and sustaining a herd size that the natural environment in the area cannot support. If that’s the case, is the human feeding operation actually just supplying more deer to be hunted and killed during hunting season. If that’s the case, then is his feeding operation as altruistic as it seems? And, how long before the familiarity and dependence is such that this guys neighbors - which you can see are not that far from him in the video - start to get deer approaching their property with the same expectation?

On one hand I understand the guy as a kind soul. I am just not sure it is the right thing to do.

I counted over twenty deer! How can he afford this much feed and how does he keep them from kicking his ass?

You’ll start injecting if your yard is ever de-landscaped by deer.

I’ve been feeding deer for years. I keep experimenting with plants in the garden, looking for ones that produce food but that deer will not eat, and more than half of the plants still just go to the deer for food. My wife thinks the deer are pretty, so she discourages my solution to the problem, but eventually she will agree that they are just venison.

Where I live in Maryland they come out all the time, more aggressively in the Winter when cold and hungry, thanks to endless development of woodland and open land.

They jump in front of cars (I been lucky there that they stood still) and spread lyme disease as well as tear apart landscape.

I’m not good at accents but this guy is from NY or Jersey sounds like to me.

I am old school and resent people moving into my area and changing the rules as if they invented living in the mountains. Do us all a favor and leave the animals alone!

Read the “Code of the West” if you don’t get it.

you need some mental help.

If you spent as much time countering Voter fraud in Harris County as you do on this “blog pimp” crap you might be useful.
