I Look Down On Young Women With Husbands And Kids And I’m Not Sorry
Thought Catalog blog ^ | January 15, 2014 | Amy Glass

Every time I hear someone say that feminism is about validating every choice a woman makes I have to fight back vomit.

Do people really think that a stay at home mom is really on equal footing with a woman who works and takes care of herself? There’s no way those two things are the same. It’s hard for me to believe it’s not just verbally placating these people so they don’t get in trouble with the mommy bloggers.

Having kids and getting married are considered life milestones. We have baby showers and wedding parties as if it’s a huge accomplishment and cause for celebration to be able to get knocked up or find someone to walk down the aisle with. These aren’t accomplishments, they are actually super easy tasks, literally anyone can do them. They are the most common thing, ever, in the history of the world. They are, by definition, average. And here’s the thing, why on earth are we settling for average?

If women can do anything, why are we still content with applauding them for doing nothing?

I want to have a shower for a woman when she backpacks on her own through Asia, gets a promotion, or lands a dream job not when she stays inside the box and does the house and kids thing which is the path of least resistance. The dominate cultural voice will tell you these are things you can do with a husband and kids, but as I’ve written before, that’s a lie. It’s just not reality.

You will never have the time, energy, freedom or mobility to be exceptional if you have a husband and kids.

I hear women talk about how “hard” it is to raise kids and manage a household all the time. I never hear men talk about this. It’s because women secretly like to talk about how hard managing a household is so they don’t have to explain their lack of real accomplishments. Men don’t care to “manage a household.” They aren’t conditioned to think stupid things like that are “important.”

Women will be equal with men when we stop demanding that it be considered equally important to do housework and real work. They are not equal. Doing laundry will never be as important as being a doctor or an engineer or building a business. This word play is holding us back.

“There’s no way those two things are the same.”

I couldn’t agree more. Women who have husbands who support them while they can take care of their kids are much better off.

Quite a screed there, Amy. Too bad your mother didn’t feel the same way, as there would be one less hate-filled, brain dead libtard in the world spewing forth their mindless bullcrap.

Amy, my dear, from a biological perspective, you exist for one purpose, and no other. That purpose is to ensure that your DNA is preserved in the form of children. If you do not do that, then, as far as nature is concerned, there is no reason for your existence.

Also, sweety, perhaps you have heard of the term, “survival of the fittest”? It means that your DNA, with your inexplicable desire to override your instincts to have children, will not exist in the next generation, while my DNA is being carried forward with my two grandchildren. In the end, selfish little dolts like you, who mistakenly think that life is all about hedonism, prune your particular genetically determined personality traits out of the population. Humanity is better off that way.

getting a promotion - it appears any promotion will do.

That is her problem right there. She is not a self-starter. She thinks success will come from someone else promoting her. She has done everything she can in this article to un-promote herself. Who would want someone so passive working for him or her? Not just passive, but a complainer who resents the natural demands of her own biology.

“You will never have the time, energy, freedom or mobility to be exceptional if you have a husband and kids.”

Depends upon one’s definition of exceptional. With what execeptional contributions have you graced the world besides this silly, little polemic as compared to a woman with husband and children who also has a career?

I think you are a singularly unaccomplished hack to announce such an ignorant judgment on the contributions and abilities of other women.

Well - Hubby HAS been prodding me on trying to figure out what I should be when I grow up now that the baby is in kindergarten.

I find myself in the same spot I was in at 19 - trying to settle on a major and really not knowing what I want to do!

Mentally - I just might belong with that group of confused kids! Lol!

“.......which is the path of least resistance,”

Ha! Our income is cut in half because of this path of least resistance. Everything is priced now with the assumption that households have two incomes. Incomes are depressed because of that phenomenon. I’m happy about this path, but it takes resolve.

>> wow. somebody is awfully bitter!

Checking out her other blog posts reinforces your analysis.

Reminds me of that old joke:

Q: what do feminists use for birth control?
A: Their personality.

There are cases to made for all those activities and the satisfaction with life that comes from them. In my county a lot of young women get pregnant at 19 and end up on public assistance. At work in the city some "career" women get pregnant at 35 and become rather useless as workers and as mothers.

I would rather see more of the other cases: accomplished women and accomplished mothers. The world needs both types.

I have always claimed that conservative women are the true feminists. We have men in our lives because we WANT them in our lives. Not to pay tuition or help us with political careers. We enjoy looking like women and we’re also not afraid to get dirty. Men holding the door open for us are greeted with a smile and then we hold the door for the person behind us. Liberals are glued to their phones, they don’t hold the door for anyone.

Opinions are like rumps, everyone has one.

She’s representative of a certain mind-set who believes that they, and they alone, have the answer to living.

There are a lot of those people running around right now.

A few work in key places in HHS...

Women wanting to compete with men is dumb. It’s like a white person trying to be black, or vice versa. Women have something that men will never have. We have a je nails se qua, perhaps best described as nurturing love. Women who now how to love, have the power.

Whoever said women have to take care of the house and bring home the bacon should be shot. My husband thinks he can do everything better than I can, and I applaud all of his efforts. I put him on a pedestal, and I call the shots (unless he thinks it was my idea).

I have a Masters Degree, speak 3 languages, but from my real life experiences, my grandmothers generation had it much better. She was a queen. My mothers generation was exhausted, disappointed, and dysfunctional. As tired as she was, mama didn’t raise no fool.

I’m hoping DP can take early retirement in less than ten years. Then he can teach the last three kids high school, and I can get a job at Walmart.

Those things are not “stupid”. Women and men are wired differently. What men tend to have no aptitude nor desire to do, women do. And the opposite is also true.

But a man who wants to be a “house husband” thinks what men normally pursue is “stupid”, just as this person thinks what women pursue is “stupid”.

Yes, I think she is bitter. It’s what happens when you pursue what violates your nature.

Why is a college educated woman raising her own children and even home schooling them inferior to going to work for pay and having a high school graduate watch them?
