The Community Affairs Committee voted 8-1 to pass SB 296, sponsored by Sen. Jeff Brandes, R-St. Petersburg, that would remove any criminal penalties for those found carrying weapons in public without a permit during evacuations ordered by the governor. The law exposes the fundamental rift between political parties written about by Thomas Jefferson, among others. Jefferson wrote:
"Men by their constitutions are naturally divided into two parties:
1. Those who fear and distrust the people, and wish to draw all powers from them into the hands of the higher classes.
2. Those who identify themselves with the people, have confidence in them, cherish and consider them as the most honest and safe, although not the most wise depositary of the public interests."--Thomas Jefferson to Henry Lee, 1824. ME 16:73
When you disarm [the people] you commence to offend them and show that you distrust them either through cowardice or lack of confidence, and both of these opinions generate hatred against you. - Niccoló Machiavelli, The Prince. 1537.The crime rate soared as more gun control was enacted, until 1993, as reforms made exercise of the second amendment a significant reality. Large numbers of states followed Florida's lead in enacting "shall issue" concealed carry laws. Illinois, the last holdout to allow any concealed carry in public, was forced by a Federal court to enact a shall issue law last year. Five states now have "constitutional carry", where no permit is required.
Which begs the question: Why have the original restriction at all?
Pinellas county sheriff Bob Gualtieri was recently quoted as saying that he’s against this and that it’s ludicrous to even be considering it.
Sorry, Bob, but your deputies are going to be tending to their own business when a disaster comes our way. Disarming us isn’t going to make you look very good, you dolt.
Being one of the privileged government enforcers permitted to carry weapons is what makes all too many “officers” feel SPECIAL and good about themselves.
“Why if everyone is permitted self-defense rather than dialing 911 and hoping for rescue where will our union and political jobs be?”

I don’t know why FL gets such recognition on this. GA has had shall-issue since dirt.

PAGING ALL THUGS: Kroger disarms their security guards
Paging all thugs! Kroger is taking all weapons away from their security staff. COLUMBUS, Ohio (10TV) Changes are in the works when it comes to how Kroger stores handle their security. The grocery chain has confirmed with 10TV that it is in the process of transitioning to unarmed security guards across the company. The security company...
A couple weeks ago when it was announced the Florida Sheriffs Assn was against the bill, I emailed Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey asking where he stands on the issue. He claims to be a strong supporter of 2A.
Crickets.
We just made sure that wording was in our new gun bill in GA. In times of emergency nobody can confiscate weapons. Its good to have that language no matter what.
I’m in a remote rural area. In case of an “emergency” you can be sure that I’ll be armed, law or no law.
“Why if everyone is permitted self-defense rather than dialing 911 and hoping for rescue where will our union and political jobs be?”
Answers:
1. The union bankrupt.
2. Political job holders will be hunting a real job.
America can deport the illegal aliens just by closing down some agencies. Those AgencyPersons with no gubment feeding trough access card will displace the Messicans and other such criminals.
