Miami, Florida, residents are being told to buy an attack dog and "some firearms" in light of pending budget cuts slated to reduce the police force by "250 police officers."
The cuts are part of a budget proposed by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez.
According to 7 News WSVN, the budget cuts will eliminate "close to 650 county jobs to fill a $64 million hole in the general fund."
While Mayor Gimenez says he wants "the same number of patrol officers on the street... [as] today" once the new budget goes into effect, he also admits it could eliminate the jobs of "about 250 police officers."(continued)

Good advice, period.
My neighborhood had a few burglaries for a while. Lately crime is way down. I notice there are now 3 County Constables living in the neighborhood within a few blocks of each other. And their cars are always parked at their homes at night. I love it!
For the rest of us, those that don’t happen to have police presents, guns and dogs are our defense.
Not likely to ever be reported on in the mainstream press though as it counters their anti gun position.
attack which dog?
Yes i read the headline to mean that with the shortage of police, residents are encouraged to buy guns and shoot dogs as the Police won’t have the manpower to shoot dogs. Someone has to shoot fido after all.
I have to admit, I looked at the headline real fast and I thought it said...
in light of Police Cats
instead of Cuts.
Hmmm...
George Zimmerman where are U......?
LaBron is smart, getting his family out of Miami.
This message was crafted by a liberal for liberals. The crafter has the view that guns and dogs are bad and he’s emphasizing why the cuts are bad because now you’ll have to own our own gun and dog, both of which might turn on you all by themselves.
Meanwhile the rest of us are saying (about the gun at least), I’ve got it. Cut already. Maybe with fewer cops I can buy a dog and it won’t get murdered.
My daughter’s husband travels frequently. The bedrooms for her and the three grand daughters are upstairs.
At night, her Doberman (Kingston, he can be mean if his family is threatened) and a Shepherd/Pit Bull mix (Bowser who is afraid of anything - even a ceiling fan) sleep with her or the hallway at the top of the stairs.
Both of the dogs are there to bark and alert her in time to get to the GunVault bolted to the night stand and access the S&W 686 or the 625 she keeps in it.
Ha!
I am curious why the police force has to carry so much of the burden of the cuts? Over 1/3. How about we cut out some of those pet social programs for awhile and unnecessary high salary admins.
Typical liberal ploy, scare people about their safety (cutting police, letting criminals go, etc.) to get people to agree to pay more taxes.
What is Mayor Giminez’s stance on wanting taxes raised?
This advice could adversely affect the local economy — donut shops might close.
“I am curious why the police force has to carry so much of the burden of the cuts? “
When Clinton provided federal money to hire local cops it was not for crime control, though that was how it was sold. A small town near here got the extra cops and later did away with their entire police force as all they did was write tickets. Locally here they’ve radically stepped up “code enforcement” which is dog-whistle for revenue collection. So, will they cut revenuers? No. Probably not, as that will make any budget problem worse. As it is I suspect the actual crime fighters, the detectives, are vastly overworked. Did you realize that practically every dead body requires a report? Can you imagine how those cases get pencil-whipped in a town with half a million residents? Actual crime fighting is, for all practical purposes, not happening. Only political crimes or high profile cases get the kind of attention you see on CSI.
But on a lager scale when the federal government went into its most recent funding “crisis” it was the military that bore (as I recall) 50% of the hit.
Social programs are too important to be subject to funding or budget constraints. (uhm.../s?)
“Being told” by a police union hack looking to protect his job, that is. He no doubt expects to scare the citizenry into demanding a tax increase to pay his fellow union members.
I wonder if they have any MRAPs they could sell.
Memphis is under contract disputes for muny workers, BLUE FLU and RED RASH, are keeping Fire and LEO home. Retired are really getting the shaft of healthcare. Trying to shove them off on 0’care.
This dominates the news daily.
