Zoe Quinn's campaign against Fine Young Capitalists was inexcusable, period. Also the attacks on Quinn and Fish seemed self-imposed to say the least.

A family member who has been involved with game industry reporting mentioned this to me a while back. He has never trusted game reporters nor game media. But when he told me, I just thought the whole thing was silly gossip. Now it appears this woman has actually gone to the Jesse Jackson school of shakedown artists and is employing both the game media and game developers to aid her. It is an all court press to corral and control gamers and make them become politically correct compliant. Just like what is happening in football.

Next thing you know they will ban shooter games and the only thing available to buy will be games like that woman’s depression game.

Long before Paul Revere.

I know all about what happened. And the people who were complaining started off with valid complaints. But then they devolved into pathetic name calling and started acting like misogynist @$#% and earned their own criticism. It’s not political to “censor” people who behave like shallow pathetic scumbags. If they’d have kept it clean they’d have a case, they didn’t.

Arma 3 with TrackIR and TS3 playing Domination or BECTI. Hours spent, no commercials, military tactics and strategic planning. TV can’t hold a candle to that sort of entertainment. My generation will be the last to have bought TVs.

I don’t know what a gamergate is but the author was wrong to think that Worldcon has gone PC, that is if this drama queen’s hissyfit against the older attendees (and the lack of gender options for badges) is any measure...

So, you're not ignorant of the facts, you just think that when leftists are attacking people they shouldn't be censored, while the people defending themselves should be.

You should have continued to pretend you didn't know what was going on. Ignorance was a far more defensible position.

Hands off my fantasyland (i.e., gaming), I don’t harm anybody with my gaming. I imagine it is most gamers’ attitude.

Those SJWs can create their own fantasyland. No wait, they did, but nobody cared.

Jealousy of others’ creative success and an innate desire to destroy describe the start of this hissy war.

As for the ‘no real objectivity with (any kind of) journalism’, well, Duh! But at least this incident forced them out in the open.

I think when the first person to lose their cool in an argument loses, and if your method of losing your cool is to feed into a stereotype you lose extra hard.

God help us all with one-sided restrictions to ‘keep it clean’ when going into a fight. Let me guess, you don’t “cheat”. ever. gaming.

Expanded to the real world, the Left took every advantage while the Right still think they’re going into a fair fight.

Only time I ever cheat gaming is when we’ve decided a game of Illuminati will be played with the cheating rules, which still makes it not cheating really. Because cheating makes things boring.

But this isn’t really cheating, this is about how to actually win. Going shrill gets results, but it’s not really a win. If you notice where the Left really wins is where they remain calm and patient. The whole gay rights movement really started gaining traction when they stopped pushing so hard, when they had less odd costumes at Stonewall and more just trying to get people treated like people they started winning. When they were shrill they were weirdos and nobody wanted anything to do with them, when they went calm the Right went shrill, got easily labeled as bigots, and have lost that war.

As soon as the guys in Gamergate went to epithets they were shrill and they lost. They gave the other side the ability to calmly point out the vileness of the attacks (because they were quite vile) and gave away the field. They started with valid complaints, but they snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by being incapable of presenting their arguments calmly and without malice.

That may have been true in the past but not today. Stonewall etc. took place in a time when people had ben raised (previously) on the idea of civilized discussion, taught critical thinking/logic skills and so forth.

Today, the generations currently involved were raised/taught from preschool onward by 60s radicals and have a life of experience based on the words of MSNBC/HuffPo/Kos and DU. And with the internet, millions of blogs reinforcing leftist positions. Along with the college ‘educations’ that actively promote the idea that all things are acceptable to ‘win’. Everyone is a unique little snowflake and the most important person ever, thus the world must conform to their desire of the nanosecond.

And unfortunately, the desire to win/be ‘right’ leads many down the road they were taught to follow all the faster. the path of situational ethics. Today, nothing is off limits as long as one gets what they personally desire.

Which unfortunately we ALSO see making lots of headway on the right and right here on FR.

It’s just as true today. Probably even more so. In the age of confrontation based television the people who can actually stay calm are the ones that influence people. The shout down might be entertaining for the people that agree with you, but it doesn’t sway the masses. Impressing the choir doesn’t get you anything... well OK maybe some ratings. But if you want to effect change you’ve got to talk to (talk not shout, and to not at) the mushy middle that really decide how this country is going to do stuff.

I and the facts disagree. Plenty of calm voices are ignored every election and the liberal screeching wins the day. That’s a (recent) historical reality.

The hysterical blogs get the hits. The things they discuss are made mainstream. The MSNBC types policies are now lay while the more Fox positions are benched time and time again. And considering Fox has orders of magnitude more viewers, it shows whose influence and argument style holds actual on the ground sway. Facts no longer matter. Emotion is the new reality.

Not really. Conservatives win plenty of elections. Unless we really screw the pooch we’re in line for big gains in 2 months.

The hysterical blogs get the hits from the choir. Which again, doesn’t make change. The libs have control of the fed right now. But notice in the great scheme of things neither MSNBC nor Fox have any real rating, neither is influencing the country, at best they energize their base.

Emotion is fine, but not shrill. There’s a massive difference between emotion and a shout down. You can have lots of emotion and not call a woman a c$%^. I’m not saying not have have emotion, I’m saying emotion doesn’t excuse being abusive, and abusive doesn’t win arguments in a way that matters.
