I am thinking about picking up an AR7, just to have in the bug out pack. Its more a pack I toss into the truck when driving long distances in the winter. I don't really expect to be caught alone in a 4x4 truck in the wild lands of Vermont for long, but I never know. And I do not want to drive around with my Remington 700 in the back seat.
So, has anyone owned one and are they worth it. Its the break down capability I am looking for. I guess there are other weapons that break down as well. I just haven't thought of them.
I repeatedly tried to lose one in a tragic boating accident but it kept floating up.
Had one. Jam-o-matic. Contacted manufacturer, tried different magazines, even worked on the chamber. Still jammed. Sold it and bought a 10-22.
Need a break-down, get a 10-22 or Papoose by Marlin. Don’t waste your time or money on the -7.
I had one many years ago, and found it to very inaccurate. I couldn’t comment on the new ones, as they now made by a better company.
That being said, I agree with the poster above that the Ruger 10-22 Takedown is a far superior option. Even comes with it’s own backpack.

I owned an AR-7 lnog time past.
GET ONE TODAY! They’re a great asset for a BOB: small, light, the .22LR ammo is cheap and light to pack.
The broken-down AR-7 takes only a little room in a bag or pack, and in a water situation, the stock will float long enough to recover the rifle.
The ONLY drawback I had with mine was, .22LR without a copper-jacket had a tendency to double-feed.

My aunt probably still the TR6 she bought decades ago. It was a carport queen. Sharp little car.
too many rolled. The TR7 didn't last at all. I liked the older triumphs. Unfortunately I haven't seen many new models lately.
I got rid of it when it started going into full auto, which it wasn't supposed to do.
But as protection in the wild, I don't know. Maybe for protection against squirrels, but hey, it's a .22LR, so you can't expect a lot of "stopping power" for anything bigger.
On the other hand, it's lots of fun to shoot.
I had one back in the late 70s, early 80s. At that time I think they were made by Armalite, or something like that. It was a fun .22, and accurate out to about 30 yards. I traded it off to a friend in some deal. I can’t remember having any problems with it, or failures to fire.
Last that I heard was she was having made road worthy a couple years back.
James May did a segment on Top Gear saying the 6 was a bloke’s car only. I would try my hand at a rebuttal if my aunt would loan the car and I could find a female model that could drive a stick.
AR-1, 22/410, 10/22, get one of each!
I have a preference for the Remington Nylon 66. Super accurate, never jam, plastic stock but does not cause little old ladies to lose bladder control when they see it.
Unfortunately Remington does not make them any more.
You obviously haven’t shopped for .22 ammo recently. 50 round boxes are going for $7.99, and the best price I’ve seen on a brick lately is 50 bucks.
I have the pistol version. Same action. Given to me because owner could never get a full mag empty without a jam. I tried everything and could do no better. I would give it to you but you’ve given me no reason to hate you.
And they’re perfect if you’re attacked by flying wood blocks.
