Media Fawn Over Billionaires’ ‘Conscience-Stricken’ Call for Wealth Tax
Newsbusters ^ | June 27, 2019 | Joseph Vazquez

When liberal donor George Soros and several other liberal billionaires called for a wealth tax, the media swooned.

Soros, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes, heiress Abigail Disney and 15 others wrote an open letter calling on presidential candidates to adopt a wealth tax on the top 1/10 of 1 percent.

Vanity Fair was thrilled on June 24, publishing a supportive, hyperbolic account of the “zillionaires’” letter declaring: “Conscience-Stricken Billionaires Beg 2020 Candidates: Take Our Money.” Nevermind criticism that a wealth tax is unconstitutional, the reaction from Vanity Fair, The New York Times and CNN stories avoided tough questions and criticism. Bloomberg breezed over the fact that “some” unnamed people say it would be too difficult to impose, or unconstitutional.

Stories that read like press releases are public relations, not journalism.

That uncritical treatment was predictable given the media’s history of complaining about wealth and inequality. Rather than question the premise, or motives or find counterarguments, Vanity Fair, the Times and some other outlets repeated or promoted the letter as is — without challenge.

The letter opined, “Those of us in the richest 1/10 of the richest 1% should be proud to pay a bit more of our fortune forward to America’s future. We’ll be fine — taking on this tax is the least we can do to strengthen the country we love.”

They can pay more without the government imposing a wealth tax. No one is standing in their way.

The New York Times and CNN the letter’s arguments for a wealth tax (along with including a few supporting citations of their own) without criticism.

Pathetic people should write their own checks to the government.

I’ve heard there is a process in place, if you want to give gifts to the government. You can give a gift and designate it to help pay down the national debt. Perhaps you can designate it to go to specific programs. Whatever the case, these people can voluntarily pay more. They don’t have to wait for a tax to be levied on them.

1/10 of 1% - No problem! It’ll never change. We know that government is not voracious, not greedy, not rapacious and is always satisfied with the tribute we send to it and manages our Danegeld payments wisely.

Why, just look at Social Security. In, 1935, the original Social Security contribution rate was 1 percent of pay and it was promised to never be increased.

As soon as you open Pandora’s Box of a “wealth tax,” we are royally screwed. It doesn’t matter one iota how small the initial tax it. It will grow and grow and grow until it consumes us all.

After all, there are another 5 billion people around the world who want to move the the U.S. and we need to pay for their travel, food, housing, schooling and medical care.

Yes.

Or fund actual charities. (Not the seditious front groups they fund now which pose as charities)

I’m having an intense attack of conscience, and it’s telling me that you need to pay more taxes.

theoretically most of those billionaires don’t pay squat. Their gains are on paper and not taxed unless they sell. Capital gains tax are not paid on stock appreciation it’s paid when the stock is sold or cashed in.

They want the tax, so that we can pay for it.

They will dodge it and give it to us to pay. Or use the tax against their “competition”. DuPont is a fine example of a company that loves more regulation but corrupt cronies like Joe Biden will always write an exemption for DuPont to be excluded. DuPont gets to use the new regulations against any up and coming competition.

I am always suspicious of anyone who wants to pay more taxes.

If they want to, they can do so

Gifts to the U.S. Government
How do I make a contribution to the U.S. government?
Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called “Gifts to the United States.”

This account was established in 1843 to accept gifts, such as bequests, from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States. Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs.

These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government. Financial gifts can be made by check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and mailed to the address below.

Gifts to the United States
U.S. Department of the Treasury
Funds Management Branch
P.O. Box 1328
Parkersburg, WV 26106-1328
Any tax-related questions regarding these contributions should be directed to the Internal Revenue Service at 800-829-1040.

Stop giving tax write offs for ‘charities’ and ‘foundations’ and all the other crap liberal elites use the scam the country... and the ‘problem’ of them having too much money and power will go away on it’s own.

Personally I think the way the tax law is written benefits rich liberals in many many ways. For ex, Bezos, Buffet and Gates can withdraw their capital gains claim donations to their favorite causes and therefore pay no taxes on the gain or withdraw.

Actually I think if you were able to get Sanders to sit down in Voight’s basement cell and confront him he’d confess that “Yep I want to not only tax wall street and the rich every year on their paper capital gains, I want to include the middle class on their gain on wall street and housing.” The money tree is unlimited for them to take

Can’t wait for the next “speaking truth to power” segment.

“They can pay more without the government imposing a wealth tax. No one is standing in their way.”

It’s my understanding that the IRS will return excess funds, but I’m not sure about state tax collection.

These people should be made to release their tax returns to prove that they aren't taking any deductions, or using any tax shelters.

The wealthy use government to pay the taxes to support charities they used to fund themselves. The Uber rich don’t make a profit, they just control a foundation that owns what we call possessions. They live in mansions paying One Dollar a month in rent, the foundation writes it off. Everything is an expense, all profits go into the different types of shelters to hide them from taxation.

That’s not their conscience speaking, it’s their left-wing agenda.

The conscience is like the standard equipment on a car.

It is given by God to every human being and reflects his laws, rules and desires for our life and NOT our foolish emotionally driven political agendas.

I will bet any amount you choose that Soros has already managed to insulate the vast bulk of his wealth from whatever tax is proposed.

He will signal virtue while acting like a pig.

There is NOTHING holding these people back from giving the government more money. NOTHING! Instead, they trust the fools will think they are somehow so benevolent. When instead they are malevolent.
